Free, as it mostly is, from the usual politics, culture wars and general political toxicity, this forum is often something of an oasis of calm. But sometimes the isolation from real life can be a bit too much. As we emerge from the pandemic, anyone sifting through the posts, would be hard pressed to know that it happened, other than a few queries about programmes for matches played behind closed doors.

As I came round from having my prostate removed, in pain and discomfort and with various tubes coming out of me, just about the only thing I could do, was to to insert the earphone from my little radio, where I was exposed to the cheery news of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. In those early days, the possibility of some sort of nuclear exchange was not completely out of the question. It led me to wondering how this forum would react. Presuming one of the early targets would be Faslane naval base, would there be someone asking how they could get hold of Dumbarton's last (ever) home programme or someone else, wondering how much their copy was now worth.
Anyway, the doomsday scenario seems less likely now, so we don't need to let it bother us. Presumably there is work to be done seeking out Chelsea programmes and cancelled European matches. As for me, recovering, I have set myself a target of attending the vital UCL virtual championship decider, between Harborough town and Hinckley LRFC on the 26th March. If anyone from here is at the match and you see a guy wearing a Pompey hat, please don't get between him and the toilet!
To any gents of a certain age, get a PSA test, it may save your life.

I hope your recovery goes well. I already have a test booked for early April.
Hoping for a good result.

I am sure you will make a great recovery farmersboy. My father-in-law had another 43 years after he had his prostate done and, surgery is better nowadays. Good advice to get your test done (known as the silent killer) as it could save your life and so prolong your collecting years. I remember clenching my buttocks when Jeremy Clarkson referred to the test as 'the full English anal.'

Hi farmersboy, I hope you make it to the game on the 26th, having travelled to many non league games & various leagues this season so far, I can safely say that Harborough & Hinckley are two of the best teams I've seen this season by a long chalk, should be a cracker. I wish you well in your recovery.
