This topic may have been posted before but I'm intrested to konw how you all became programme collectors? I stated becoming a programme collector when I first noticed the programme shop at Crewe and have been hooked with porgrammes ever since.

Well, I went to Goodison as a boy in the late 60s (with my Dad) although the exact timing is a mystery to me.. Anyway by the early 70s I started going regularly and buying the programmes and went from there - partly fuelled by being away at boarding school for 6 years the programmes would be the main source of information (comfort!). I used to buy all sorts of stuff (gosh I wish I still had all the 1950s FA Cup Finals, Scottish League Cup Finals from the 50s, Hearts v Gala Fairydean Friendly from the 50s and the Wolves/Man Utd semi 1949 which I probably exchanged for buttons) - used to frequent the programme shops at Everton, Liverpool, Tranmere (by the ground) and so on.

If I recall correctly I was desparate in the mid 70s to get an Everton v Spurs programme (I think it might have been from the Spurs Double season) and a contact I made (back in the days when you corresponded by post) sent me a lot of stuff. I've since passed on a lot of free stuff to young lads starting out so I guess I've repaid my debt to the original guy by doing likewise.

So I gradually built up my collection which was fairly comprehensive from mid 50s to early 90s - then I gave it a sort of miss until 4-5 years ago and I got back into it (i.e. going regularly) - got my collection up to date and backdated more or less complete - with all first class homes from mid 50s to now - I have a scrap of paper somewhere with the numbers on... which indicated how many I needed back in the early 90s. Well I've covered everything since then (homes and major aways) and a large proportion of the missing homes from earlier years.

Mine was from the club-shop at Ashford Town FC, found a few current season back in 1989-90 and spent my pocket money on them, and after gaining 5-10 from that season (and all from the club shop) decided to look at previous seasons.

This went up to around the year 2000 and then i started feeling the gaps via dealers catalogues, remember placing an order with Brentside around 2002 to complete back to 1980.... then from then till now have placed a lot of time and money into the collection.... complete homes back to and including 55/56, with only 4 missing from 54/55 now.

Now I am addicted to the hobby and it plays a massive part of my days Smile
