WP ( Bill ) Thompson - Notttingham Forest 1921-1937

Hi, Anyone have anything more to share on this player? He was captain around 1927 and toured South Africa with the FA in 1929. He reputedly played for Derby County in 1919 in the Midlands War League. He was an England Schoolboy International in 1914 v Wales and Scotland and played 396 times for the Forest.

He`s listed at full back for the english FA team v Rhodesia 29.6.29

According to the Tour Souvenir "WP Thomson [Nottingham Forest] was brought into the team on the defection of Bower. Mainstay of his club, for whom he has appeared regularly for a number of seasons"
no pictures - presumably because of his late inclusion.

He is also listed as a reserve [Thompson Derby] for the england schoolboys team v scotland 16.5.1914

"Bill Thompson was born in Derby in 1900 and won an England Schoolboys Cap before working as a draughtsman at the local Rolls Royce factory during WW1. During that time he played for Royce's highly-respected works team, alongside future Derby and England winger George Thornewell. Thompson signed for Forest in 1922 as cover for Harry Bulling and Harry Jones, and eventually gained a regular place in the side at right back, forming a fine partnership with Percy Barrett. A rugged and determined player Bill Thompson was a popular choice as club Captain in 1930 when took over from Bob Wallace. He continued in the right back spot until his retirement in 1935."
