Former Chesterfield legend and record goal scorer Ernie Moss sadly passed away today aged 71. Ernie had been suffering long term from a rare type of dementia linked to the continual heading of a football.
Ernie also played for Peterborough United, Mansfield Town, Port Vale, Lincoln City, Doncaster Rovers, Stockport County, Scarborough, Rochdale, Kettering Town, Matlock Town and Shepshed Charterhouse before moving in to management with several non league clubs.

Fondly remembered by Palace fans of a certain age as being the man who scored the winning goal for Mansfield at Wrexham in May 1977 which meant Palace were promoted from Div 3, and Mansfield were champs - poor old Wrexham finished 5th in the end - they'd have gone up at Palace's expense if they'd won. But good old Ernie finished them off.
