Saturday 26th May 1945

Friendly

Crystal Palace 1 Leicester City 4

Gate: ?

For some reason these 2 clubs arranged back-to-back friendlies at the end of the last war-time season, the previous week saw a Palace side win 1-0 at Filbert Street, this week the result was reversed and scoreline more emphatic.

The previous owner underlined the players and wrote the captains' names in the corners, and the half- and full-time score. But he didn't write the scorers or attendance. Plus he punched 2 holes in it. If anyone has those missing details (but not the holes!), I'd be grateful.

And if anyone has the Leicester v Palace friendly, 19.5.45, to sell, please drop me a line.

Think that concludes my May contributions. Night all. Wave

26th May, 1945

Midland Cup Final 2nd Leg

Derby County 6 (Doherty 5, Jordan) Aston Villa 0

att: 16,218

Already ahead 3-0 from the first leg, Peter Doherty took centre stage as Derby cruised home. Very smart trophy which I saw behind the scenes at the club quite a few years ago.
