A bit of a random question I know but I have this miniature leather football from the 1960s. It was from a tour of a Japan.
Is Sceptre a known maker?
Anyone aware of any sites dedicated to this area of collecting?
Many thanks

From my Japanese rugby collector friend

Hi Richard, yes, SCEPTRE is widely known as mainly a rugby gear manufacturer founded in 1920s. When I was a student, almost all the rugby balls were SCEPTRE leather balls. Up until the end of RWC 1995, SCEPTRE was a dominant supplier of Japan international shirts.

holtie , a couple of years ago l picked up a full sized vintage ball, 1960s or 70s,, from a charity shop for a couple of quid. No signatures on it or anything. I put it in some local auction not expecting it to be worth much. From memory , it went for something like £80-100. Someone must have spotted it on the internet. The Middlesex Wanderers written on it is interesting. If you check them out they have a bit of a history with tours abroad after the First World War. It’s a pity it’s not from that period. Might be worth putting it on eBay with a reserve . The link with Middlesex might bump it up. Pity it’s not full size. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the replies gents, it came with a cracking collection from the tours in the 1960s. Appreciate the information given and over the weeks I hope to share some more photos...

Wasn't Middlesex Wanderers the name of the charity team run by Russell Grant the TV clairvouyant?
