Does anyone have any details on the North v England Trial match played at Roker Park Sunderland in 1914? I believe the match was played on Wednesday January 21st 1914.

Does anyone have any further details on the match?

Any newspaper match reports or adverts? Was a programme etc issued?

Does anyone know if caps or medals were awarded for these types of games which were played back then?

Thank you in advance for any help that you can give.

Thanks for that. What did that appear in? Is there a match report or advert preview from the day of the game?

Not the match you are interested in but here’s a press photo from The South v North game 1902. The legendary Vivian Woodward with ball at his feet is in the shot..

There are reports in several newspapers on the 22nd January e.g. The Newcastle Journal, The Daily News, Daily Herald etc. The score was 4-3 to England, the scorers were as follows;
Holley (England 2 mins)
Elliott (North 19)
Fleming (England 25?)
Shea (North 54, 56)
Woodward (England 73)
Mosscrop (England 75)

McCall was injured 32 mins and went off, replaced at half time by Boyle (Burnley) so an early example of a substitution.
