Workington Town??

I still notice that some sellers list Workington programmes and call them Workington Town, which is a name they've never had. Workington Town is the name of the town's rugby league club.

A number of teams in the 50's and 60's printed Workington Town in the programmes as their opponents and I expect a number of people listing these programmes are just copying the opponents name from the covers,

I always consider them as mistaking them for Wokingham Town

Not Wokingham Town as they were never in the football League. This usually happened while Workington were still in the league , when they were voted out the majority of the clubs got the name correct and still do now. I have not seen a non-league Workington programme calling them Workington Town.
