Talking Pictures channel showed the "lost" 1960 movie "Jackpot" this week which featured stock footage from Highbury of a match between Arsenal and, quite possibly, Bolton Wanderers.
Just for completeness, if anyone knows who the Gunners' opposition was, for sure, I'd appreciate confirmation (and date etc).
Also, presently on the True Entertainment channel is the Persuaders episode "Read and Destroy" part of which was filmed at Vicarage Road (1970?). Nice angled shots of three sides of the ground.

One episode of A Touch of Frost staring David Jason was recorded at Valley Parade Bradford and The Shay Halifax.
Brookside's spin off Damon and Debbie staring Simon O'Brien was recorded partly at valley Parade.
The Damned United used Saltergate Chesterfield to double as the Baseball Ground derby as well as using Elland Road Leeds .
On a Rugby Theme the King's Speech staring Colin Firth had a scene recorded at Odsal Stadium Bradford to double as Wembley. After all it was once nicknamed the Wembley of the North. |

Orient's Brisbane Road featured in the the sixties crime film Robbery.
QPR's Loftus Road was in an episode of The Sweeney, I Want The Man
Partick Thistle's Firhill also provided the backdrop to "the big match" in "Czechoslovakia" in the BBC's 1979 adaptation of Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy
And of course Highbury featured in The Arsenal Stadium Mystery |

Yesterday's Hero starring Ian McShane in 1979 was filmed at a few grounds, namely Ipswich's Portman Road, Maidenhead and Winsdor & Eton.
They also edited the League Cup Final between Southampton and Forest at Wembley to look like McShane's team.

When the makers of Michael Collins needed to recreate Croke Park in 1920 in the 1990s they naturally went to a modern League of Ireland ground, Bray Wanderers' Carlisle Grounds. |

I recollect Minder at Craven Cottage
And didn’t Elland Road appear in a episode of Porridge?
I also recall Magpie ( Mick Robertson) training with Tony Godden at the Hawthorns! |

The 1979 film, Yesterday's Hero, starring Ian Mcshane, features Maidenhead United, Windsor & Eton and Portman Rd. There is also footage of the 1979 league cup final. |

I’m surprised no-one’s mentioned Colombes/Stade Olympique (France) used in Escape to Victory yet.
On TV, plenty of Vicarage Rd in Murphy’s Mob. I’m sure Minder used Stamford Bridge too (vaguely recall Arthur getting a message to Terry read out over the tannoy). One episode of Minder also has Arthur conducting a shady deal on the terraces of an empty Wembley Stadium.
Finally, I have a vague recollection of Robin Asquith in Bottle Boys getting ripped off outside Stamford Bridge (getting sold a ticket to “last week’s match” by a tout). I might have dreamed this one though. _________________ Always looking for pre-1980 Cowes homes, pre-1987 Cowes aways, and any other bits and bobs relating to Cowes F.C. and I.W. football in general. I just watched that scene - are the opposition Swindon Town?
Come to think of it, I think we sussed this one out a few years back on this forum. Only I can't remember the outcome now. _________________ http://www.flickr.com/photos/derby1884/sets/ |

‘A Football Compendium’ , Peter J Seddon , Pub The British Library 1999, documents over 70 football themed films with lots of info on which football grounds are shown in the films. A few not mentioned on the forum are: The Cup Final mystery 1914 with shots of the Crystal Palace, The ball of fortune 1926 with the great Billy Meredith appearing as himself training a team, The great game 1930 with footage of Arsenal v Huddersfield FA Cup Final , Spotlight on the pools 1949 with footage of Charlton v Burnley at The Valley, Charley Bubbles 1967 with Old Trafford footage. Too many to mention, but if this subject is of interest, try and get hold of the Seddon book . Not a film, but did appear in the classic Michael Owen Percil soap powder TV add( was it 2007?) . Was on the touch - line as a spectator. They gave you £50 cash in hand, a roast dinner and apple pie and custard . This was filmed in North Wales, Deeside Sports Centre. |

Minder. I cut and paste the following
Episode All About Scoring, Innit? First Broadcast in the UK: 4th December 1980
Facts: This episode has a definite football theme, containing clips of an actual football match between Chelsea and Preston filmed on the 20th September 1980. Watch carefully and you can see the entrance price of just £2.00 to Chelsea's Stamford Bridge - how times have changed. |
