Happened to me once. I waited all week to make a last minute bid, then the battery in my mouse died on me with seconds to go.

Zurich Forest 1967 fairs cup was the link

However, gentleman, before you cry into your beer too much, we all need to remember with Ebay bids that just because it sold for say £17 that is not what you could have bought it for. There has been many a time I have seen a programme at say £17 and you know it is worth £50, so you bid £30 and you still lose it to the original bidder. What you will find is that yes the winning bidder has been very lucky, but it is highly likely that their maximum bid was much higher, so please don't be too dispondent, it is the seller that should be gutted as you would have bumped the price up!

I use www.gixen.com to bid for me, never let me down. Started using it after a few last minute internet failures lead me to lose out on items. Well worth the $6 a year Bow

So you guys are quite happy to give your ebay user name and password to a totally unknown third party Sherlock

I presume you have to give your password to a sniper so it can bid for you?

Have never understood the "leave it to the last minute" brigade. If I see a programme I want, I put a bid in and forget about it. I'm not prepared to go above my initial bid so why waste time and effort in seeing if I can get it right at the end? If get it, I get it. If not, there's always a next time, and very often it's cheaper next time around with another bidder out of the running.

Me too. I put a bid on, if I win it, I win it.

I use it because it does save you money eg. if there’s a programme where the current bid is £10, and I’m prepared to pay £50 and log that bid a day or two before the end, it encourages the other bidder(s) to increase their bids to try and outbid you. So if their maximum(s) are £40, you’ll still win the programme but end up paying £41 for it.

By using a sniper, there may not have been any more bids and the programme is still sitting at £10, but you come in at the last seconds and bid £50, the programme may only go upto £20 as that is the maximum the last bidder entered, but they have no chance of a come back, so you get the programme for £20.

Doesn’t work like that all the time of course, especially with multiple bidders and others using snipers, but over the course of the year it will save you money, and helps you not to forget to place a bid!

Have to disagree, it's purely and simply down to the luck of the draw, if the programme's destined to be yours you'll get it.
This week I picked up Notts. County vs Admira Vienna from 52-3 season, and got it for £1, with a maximum bid of £4 left for it at least two days before closing, as it had rusty staples. Shouldn't have got it for that but nobody else wanted it. Have picked up so many bargains by puting in such bids, but I really don't lose any sleep over losing anything.

Well I got outbid at the last on a Boston v BPA 57/8 FA Cup issue tonight. Not too upset as it wasn't in great condition but its one I want and it doesn't come up very often. When it does its usually a £20-£25 touch.

Hey ho, the wait goes on! Cool

Using a sniper can help you win the bidding (not all the time of course) and it does save you money for the reasons I outlined above, and as they say, every penny helps Laughing

It also helps combat dubious sellers who use another ID to bump up the bidding after you have bid, to see if you come back with a higher bid.
