Sheffield Utd vs Manchester Utd 1939-40 season

Beofre any individuals get too excited about this one I'm not selling it and am only doing a fellow Grimsby Town a favour by trying to find out exactly the status of the game.

Itw as played at Bramall Lane on November 4th 1939. There's no mention of it at all in the MUFC Breedon Complete Record, nor the AFS WW2 reports. I doubt it's a reserve game so assume it's either a postponed issue or friendly.

Any advice would be most welcome.

Just been contacted by the guy who's programme it is and he's sent me a photo of the inside page which confirms the game is a friendly.

Condition of the programme isn't great but would assume it's stil very collectable.

Sheffield Utd won 3-0 in front of 4,000 fans.

Collindridge & Sheen 2 were the scorers.

Here is the front cover and the back page from the 4 pager Manchester United v Preston North End Friendly fixture from 1939-40.

As you can see United did play a game at Sheffield United on the 4th November and Rocky is correct as Man U lost 0-3, but Manchester United had a return friendly fixture on the 16th December and lost again 1-2!

In those first few months of War being declared it is interesting to see the teams who were paying each other in the Western Division League: New Brighton-Manchester United- Everton-Stockport County-Manchester City-Crewe Alexandre-Chester-Port Vale-Tranmere Rovers-Wrexham-Stoke City-Liverpool.
