I recently acquired the following postcard. ( Postally unused).

There are no clues on the reverse.

I would guess 1910-20?

Bovril advert at rear.

Can anyone help?

Northampton's County Ground had a terrace like that, and goal posts in that style - but the buildings in the background don't look the same ...

Cheers Littlewiggy!

A great picture!

Similar but not sure?

It`s crossed my mind that they may be playing across the pitch to save the goalkeeping area?

Thanks, Ian

Yeah I'm unsure too Ian.

The shape of the terrace and the style of the goal posts match, but the buildings give me doubt, even though the pics are at different angles and are taken about fifty years apart.

I went there in '87 to see County in the FAC, and where the spectators are in the foreground on your card looks too dense too.

That touchline was just a rope running along the touchline to separate the football pitch from the cricket ground.
Although I did see a pic once where they used a narrow stretch of removable wooden terracing along that side, about three or four steps in height.

Good luck with it mate, it's a lovely card.

Buildings can be pulled down and rebuilt! especially as there is around 60 years difference if it is the same ground-makes sense???

Looks like White Hart Lane to me, have postcard (picture to follow) which shows one of the buildings in the background.

Further to my suggestion earlier, building between the trees looks the same as the building shown on the top right hand corner of the postcard below which was taken in December 1912

Hope you agree.

Bang on the money Nuffield.

Palace keeper Joshua Johnson in the flat cap if I'm not mistaken.

Sorry David, but it is not Josh Johnson in the flat cap as it is a West Ham United team group!

Yes, great work everyone, particularly my friend Nutfield. It's amazing how therapeutic a spot of detective work can be on a traumatic day.

Easy

I would suggest pre December 1912 the date of my card which shows advertising hoardings whereas your card appears to show just the fencing with no advertising.
