A mate of mine is now working at the Big Issue and edited the special edition of the issue they put together as the match programme for the Southampton game v Swansea last week.

It was a one-off, with the programme being a version of a normal 48pp Big Issue, rather than a glossy programme that is the norm.

How do we feel about that? Would you like to see this happen at your club, where they team up with local vendors to sell the Big Issue/programme, and then take part in charitable activities through the club?

I imagine there are a few differing views - I'm for it, but would be interested to hear what we all think.

Sounds a great initiative, and for a one-off issue why not.

It's a no from me. Nothing against the big issue, just keep the programme as it is, and give the proceeds to the charity,or employ Big Issue sellers as programme sellers on a matchday.

Lots of ways to do it without making the programme different for a week

Agree totally with Dorking.
Leave the programme alone, but utilise the Big Issue sellers at the ground.
It could also lead to a more permanent role for them.

I would say that homelessness is a much more important issue than a programme, so if by the very action of letting the team at Big Issue "take over" the programme for one match and bring some brief focus to an often overlooked problem, then great. Hopefully more clubs sign up for it.
