Cheers PP.
I'm guessing you'll already be aware of this chap, but just in case you're not his huge Flickr site on old Brizzle is truly fascinating mate.
Plus there's some great old pics of Eastville & the Gate ...

Very addictive if like me, you loathe modern grounds but love how they used to be ... |
Better not get me started on that subject, Liam! All that history bulldozed on the altar of "progress". Ha.
It's even worse in Scotland where so many of the grounds now only bother to open two sides to the public.
One reason I was so glad that Cowdenbeath and their unique stadium stayed in the League. _________________ http://www.flickr.com/photos/derby1884/sets/ |

I used to love looking at pics of the Scottish grounds back in the 70s/80s mate, especially the lower divisions, but the smaller, new grounds I've seen look quite horrible nowadays, completely soulless.
I did watch both legs of the Brechin v Alloa p/off on BBC Alba recently though, and was pleased to see their old grounds still going strong. Alloa's in particular was a real throw-back. A lovely sight. _________________ NEWPORT COUNTY & GENERAL FOOTY BADGES:

Clubs who only open two sides of their ground, such as Livingston, Clyde, St.Mirren, Stirling Albion, seem on the face of it to have built a stadium ready for the SPL as and when they get there.
My favourite Scottish ground has always been Starks Park and its unique grandstand arrangement. The terracing at Forfar is unusual in that it has a plethora of crash barriers for the space available.
Homogenisation of just about everything in life is a curse of the modern age.... _________________ http://www.flickr.com/photos/derby1884/sets/ |

One for derby1884 littlewiggy and all nostalgia freaks. An interesting film, 'The Great Game' was on TV early this morning. Match scenes were filmed at Griffin Park .Some great footage of match action from a 1952 53 Brentford game.Tommy Lawton was in it. Dianne Dorrs looked absolutely gorgeous. There was even footage of match programmes! They don't make films like that anymore! |
