Hi guys, never posted before, and I don't know much about programmes, but I found a whole bunch of them from around the war years and I'm trying to find out how much they are worth. From googling I found that the most valuable is probably this one:

from the 1943 War Cup Final between Sheffield Wednesday and Blackpool. I found a website showing it sold for about £800 in 2008. Is this a realistic price?

Where do I go about selling these programmes? Is eBay a good choice?

Thanks for your help!

Welcome to the forum!

Sounds like you have a nice find. If there's not too many, list all the programmes on here first of all (including an idea of condition), and you'll get plenty pointers as to what to do next.

You might get some offers from colectors on here.

Hello Mate, and welcome to the forum. The website you mention, Sportingold, is a good auction to pace football progs in, but I think you misread the valuation for your programme. I think you read this one:
1923 CUP FINAL Programme for 1923 Cup Final, first at Wembley, minor fold, slightly rusting staples. Generally good £800-900 800-900 .

Whereas I think this one would be closer to what you were looking for:

1943 CUP FINAL Programme for Arsenal v Charlton Ath, War Cup Final South, 1943. Folds. Fair-generally good £180-200 180-200

Its not really my era, so couldn't give a value, but as Tynie Topics said, list what you have on here, you'll get an accurate valuation, and maybe some interest.

Thanks for the advice, I'll make another thread with all the rest. Is it best to post in this subforum or the "for sale" one?

Thanks for taking a look! I was looking at number 721 on that page: "WAR CUP FINAL NORTH Scarce programme for Sheffield Wednesday v Blackpool, 8/5/1943 at Hillsborough, four page issue, folds, slight wear. Fair £950-£1000"

...which sounds exactly like what I have, and it's listed here as sold for £775.

Thanks so far!

Yes it's a gem . All war time cup finals are worth a fortune. Especially the two leg affairs on the home grounds. Sunderland played Wolves 1942 and a guy regularly asks £1200 for the Monlineux game ( but it never sells) . The game at Roker Park would be worth £3000 i would say. Blackpool i guess would be over £1000 and Sheff. Wed about £800. Sheffield war time not the rarest of programmes but this one fully deserves it's price tag.

Yeah sorry, it was me that misread that, not you, so apologies for that. As I said, not my era, so know very little. I would think it would be worth hanging onto rather than selling though, unless you need the money?

Would be really interested to see what else is in thta list, especially as my collection is for neutral games at Hillsborough.

That War Cup final would be nice, but well out of my range.

Nice work though!

Wullie, my mate recently bought the Sunderland home 42 war time semi at an auction, it was in a mixed lot and hammer price was just below £300.

The estimate on the lot was £40-£50, the auction house obviously didnt know what they had. The seller would have been happy as the lot fetched more than estimate. The programme wasnt excellent condition, but since has been restores to excellent condition. I have sent you pm with the links.

Picked up this programme in an antique shop in Bakewell in 1993. It had folds, which were fairly heavy but not wearing through the paper, and sold it in Programme Monthly for a top offer of about £60. There's inflation for you..

To be fair the link to it ended at £775 does not neccesarily mean that it sold. There could have been a reserve on it and the auctioneer may have been bidding the item up towards the reserve price in the hope that someone in the room joined in the bidding.
This happens often at Auctions.

The last Sprotingold auction shows a Millwall pre war v Stockport ending at £100, this programme was at the Altrincham fair on his stall at £110, it had obviously been bid up by the auctioneer but failed to sell, yet their website implies it sold.

The same programme was available at the most recent Sportingold auction last December failed to sell, estimate was £550, I am led to believe reserve was £450. So the current value of the programme is well below what it may or may not have sold for in 2008.
