Any help appreciated, I thought it may have been Leyton Orient when I bought it but the shorts don't appear to be correct.
Large stand in the background?

I may be off the mark Holtie, but my first thought was Airdrie.
Can't see the socks properly, but they wore black socks most seasons between WW1 & WW2.

The socks do seem to match with the stripe at the top of the socks matching would therefore date from
1912-23

Kit match with Man Utd 1921-27, Nottm Forest away 1924/5 (at Palace and probably elsewhere if colour clash), Clapton Orient with black or navy shorts from 1910-31. Airdrie have worn it for ever though.

Good luck!

your right it is not, because the United shirt was all White with a Red V but nothing around the collar.

Indeed it was, Leslie. How could I miss that?

Holtie, it's difficult to identify the players faces due to the clarity of your photo, but there's good photo of an Airdrie team group here from circa 1914 that you may be able to compare against.

http://www.edinburghs-war.ed.a.....201914.jpg

And the Airdrie kit from circa 1912 which does show a marking around the collar.

Of course, Glossop were another team who wore a similar kit from circa 1910-1914 but like you I'd plump for Airdrie.

The mystery deepens. The historian at Airdrie has ruled out the postcard being Airdrie. The red trim is really the sticking point. The stand in the background looks big enough for it to be a fairly established side.
Are we 100% sure Clapton Orient never had a red trim? Sherlock
