just received this message from some Chelsea programmes i won on ebay.

Hi iv noticed you won the bidding the programs yesterday.I tried to end the listing yesterday as I have received a higher price for them, but eBay didn't allow me to end the bidding .Appologies for this I'll refund the money ASAP.

replied that i won the programmes and expect to receive them.

Why not put a reserve price on them?

Thats pretty poor to say the least but that is what happens when Ebay charge so much to put a reserve on items. No excuses at all that a seller does that but that is the sort of shit that sell on Ebay these days as they do not get punished just as buyers who dont pay get away with it also.

negative feedback is the only option but most sellers aint to bothered as it is the difference between 100% and 99. something......makes no difference.

I won an auction for a jacket for £10 (only bidder), there was no reserve, paid for it by paypal within minutes of it having ended without being prompted.

A day later I get refunded, as the seller said it was stolen from his car when he was about to post it (yeah right)

A week later same seller relists the same jacket but with a reserve of £100. Asked him what happened, he claimed it was returned by the police!

So laughable you have to just shake you head and walk away

Didn't bother bidding again by the way and it went unsold

Should have known better really bidding for a club blazer/jacket that must have been stolen by him as an e matchday employee in the first place!

I would report the sellers and copy and paste any mail you have received to show your case.

I accept eBay will do little as they don't seem to protect anybody and after that leave negative feedback marking them down on everything you can. Unfortunately if their feedback does drop, you just close the account and open a new.

The frustrating side of eBay

I won about 200 Empire magazines for £1 on a collection only auction. I paid the vast sum instantly and contacted the seller to try to arrange collection. He stated on the listing that it must be collected from Scarborough which I was okay with as it is about an hour and a half drive and was collecting some stuff from an auction house close by anyway. he replied that he could not do it on any of the 5 time options I gave him (which were very flexible) and that he lives in York and would have to travel to Scarborough to hand them over to me which would cost an extra £7 for me to pay for his train fare to get there ( I thought you cheeky bugger). Smelling a rat here, I thought I would have some fun and tie the prat up in knots....I told him I would pick him up from his York address and take him to Scarborough with me and asked him for his home address in York and the Scarborough address, then the strangest thing happened.....yes you guessed it he cancelled the order and I got a refund of my pound. I wasted my time and effort in reporting him to Ebay and negged him just to make me feel better...then had a cold beer from the fridge. Thumbs Up

If a bidder fails to pay and you get your ebay fee back after you have opened a case against the buyer for failing to pay, what sanctions does the buyer thats failed to pay get against them or on their account?

supposedly and unpaid item strike, but it means nothing as you can get a million of these mythical things and still Ebay wouldn't do anything about your account. Shake

There's certainly some oddballs out there, and some shameless crooks judging by this thread!

I sold a vintage Coffer scarf recently for £14, then moments after it had finished, the underbidder got in touch and offered me £20 for it, as he was disappointed he'd missed out.

I thanked him for the generous offer but explained I had to honour the sale, not only because it was the right thing to do, but also because as a collector myself I'd be gutted if I was on the receiving end of a stunt like that.

As for oddballs, well this fella springs to mind.
Last year I sold an item to a chap, who mailed me all in capital letters instructing me to make sure the parcel had stamps on it and not a postage label, because his nipper collected stamps apparently.

Obviously I didn't bother, I posted the bugger and thought that was that.
I've more important things to worry about.

Next thing it has arrived with a parcel label on, and I'm being bombarded with angry mails & PMs, threatening all sorts.
So to get the nutter off my back I told him the lady in the post office had ignored my request that she use stamps.
Nothing more I could do I said.

So he demanded I tell him the exact address of the post office, and provide him with a description of the lady in question so he could report her to her bosses.
When I ignored it, he mailed again threatening to report me to eBay and saying he would get my account closed down!

All over a few worthless stamps!!

Suffice to say I won't be accepting any future bids from the crackpot.

The best one I have had is from a buyer. I sold him a mint condition programme and I posted it. 3 days later I received an email from him asking for a refund which I refused, the reason 'His dog had got to the post before him and had basically destroyed the programme'.

From memory as a seller within your settings you can set them on who can bid on your items, buyers with feedback with less than, buyers that have not paid and have strikes against them.

You have to really look to find them, most sellers don't bother so those that are guilty get away with it.

Have read the thread & can only sympathise with you all. After 40 odd years of collecting I initially found eBay to be a breath of fresh air but then I decided to sell as well. From a relaxed state as a buyer I became ever stressed conscious of other buyers (on the whole are marvellous), who plague sellers with all kinds of problems through the lack of protection from eBay. A slap on the wrist with a strike is insufficient. Sellers are rated by levels of 'standards' so why not apply that to buyers ie 'less than standard' signified by a mark against their eBay handle instead of these pointless strikes so sellers can recognise who is bidding & can reject them.

I’ve had someone buy a camera lens in vg condition for several hundred pounds, they’ve had it for almost a month but now want a refund as it’s not what they need after all!

My suspicion is that they wanted to use it for something, have done and don’t need it again. If it isn;t returned to me in the exact same condition I sent it out then I’ll be after blood!

I also posted out a programme which it seems got lost in the post, I had proof of postage through eBay itself and looking at the persons feedback things disappearing seem to be common place. I refused a refund so the seller then launched a PayPal action saying that someone had fraudulently used her card and they wanted the money back. Despite the all the evidence the proof of postage etc, I she won the PayPal action and I got charged around £14 for costs of refusing to refund her. I’ve now appealed this. it’s become the principle of the matter over an item of less than £5

Given that the whole (massively flawed) eBay system is so heavily stacked towards actively encouraging unscrupulous buyers to act fraudulently, it's a great testament to the 99.9% of people that continue to act with nothing but honesty and integrity.

It's extremely rare I encounter anybody trying it on, despite eBay bending over backwards to make it easy for fraudsters to rob you blind.

It just proves that even in today's wicked times, the majority of folk out there are still decent & honest.

I did think the same until I had two claims in the last week.

Now even items that sell for only £10 will have to be sent recorded.
