"The Great Game" (1953)

If you have access to the (most splendid) TV channel "Talking Pictures" (343 on Sky), then they're showing "The Great Game" at 4pm tomorrow.

Apart from some terrific shots of Griffin Park as was (I'd like to know which match the footage is from), it's also remarkably prescient in having a real dig at the vagaries of the maximum wage system and how naughty chairmen would circumvent it.

Also has the added bonus of the "Burnville United" programme (costing 4d) being heavily featured in the movie - due to the club chairman being the owner of the printing business who prints them.

Might only be a prop but the programme (there's a close-up on screen) looks pretty good!

It was filmed at Griffin Park on October 11 1952.

The match being played, and the footage used for the film, was between Brentford & Southampton. It ended 3-0 to the Bees in front of 18,000.
