Any ideas when the first ever programme fair took place. I know the British Programme Club organised annual conventions in Hull from June 1973. Does anyone remember these? Were they similar to programme fairs? Also, any ideas what happened to the BPC. When did it close down?

Thanks. This is one of the sources that I have looked at. I've also read one of the BPC's Collectors Handbooks. Its not clear to me exactly what a 'convention' was. The description in the book suggests there were only collectors and no dealers but I can't envisage how this might have worked if it wasn't a fair as we know it today.

David Stacey was i recall one of the early pioneers as regards organising fairs, i used to go to London in the 1970's, ques all round the block-took ages to get in , the hall was rammed with dealers stands and collectors-great memories-i have a photo somewhere as the organisers took photos once the doors were open and the masses swept in-great memories-several hundred ++ would turn out for those annual events!
