Whilst clearing my father in laws house we have found a box of football programmes mostly from the 1957 to 59 period , he would have been around 14 at the time and has a rather random collection in among them is this one

and this letter which I guess would explain how he got it

it has a slight crease as if it was folded into 4 to fit into a breast pocket but apart from that looks in good condition

This copy appeared at auction earlier this year. The estimate is on the details but I do not know what it fetched or if it sold; that information should be on the Graham Budd website.

I hope this helps.

What else is in the box?

Lots of rather random matches just looks like he collected without a theme , can't ask him as he has dementia . There is a nicely written inventory in the box of the earlier collection I'll scan it in and post it

I meant to add that the auction sale was the gross price i.e. you would have to deduct around 20% for Auction House fees etc.

Posting a list of the programmes will be useful. It may generate some interest if you are looking to sell.

Searching the completed sales on E Bay will give you an idea of current prices.

Was he a Grimsby Town fan, given the amount of GTFC programmes in there - especially multiple copies? The Rhyl vs Grimsby FAC programme is not easy to get hold of and I see he has 3 of those. The likes of the Shrewsbury reserves vs Wolves 57-8 could fetch a tidy sum. There's a good deal of very common programmes in there but the Liverpool pre 60's will always sell, Leeds vs West Ham 1955 ditto.

Take your time if you're thinking of selling and do the research bit, ie, check out ebay final slaes prices, always a good place to start. Am sure others on here will offer their views as well.

We think he probably did go and see Grimsby play around that time , also have a lot of Grimsby programmes from the late 70's early 80's in the box which would be when his son had a brief interest in football.

Currently trawling through the nightmare which is modern ebay to get an idea of what some of this stuff might be worth , ebay was so much better before the dealers took over Sad

Really interesting list which should attract a fair bit of interest. Good luck with maximising their worth. Do the thankless task of pricing before you sell and although it is time consuming, selling individually or in small lots will see a better return. It may be worth putting them on here with prices once you have done this rather than Ebay as the people on here know their stuff and appreciate the value. Good luck.

If you get a comorehensive list of Grimsby Town programmes and are seeking a valuation on them - including the more modern stuff - just drop me a line? Am not interested in them myself, but used to run the programme shop at Blundell Park in the late 80's / early 90's and am well aware of any rarities etc.

Thank you , just sorting through the box looks like his hand written notes are accurate just need to starting making a list of the 79 to 82 programmes which seem to all be Grimsby related .

Coming to the party late here...

But the fact that the accompanying letter was signed by Henry Rose who died at Munich and sent the programme out...I would guess the two together would increase the value of this programme.

Just a guess.
