I have a cricket scorecard that someone has done on board and someone has signed it so can anyone try and work out the autograph please. if image of autograph is not clear could someone tell me how to make it clearer

Probably not an autograph, just the chap who completed the stats signing it off.

8/7/57 (although it is not written precisely like this) is the final day of this test.

8757 refers to the date - it was Monday 8th July, the 4th day of this 5-day test match at Trent Bridge. 4th July was Thursday, Day 1, so the 8th July would be the Monday (day 4) as Sunday was a rest day back then.

I don't know who M Ryman is, I wondered if maybe he was the England or West Indies scorer or maybe the Nottinghamshire groundsman.

Just a thought.

Forgot about about Sunday rest days Pete but nonetheless I don't think it is an actual autograph as such.

Because someone else thinks it is an actual autograph as well.

It very well may be but in my opinion it isn't.

I'll leave it to others to come up with the identity of M Ryman as I have had a quick search and not found anything yet.

Bill Ferguson was WI scorer in 1957

Searching the online wisden, no ryman or Rayman in the archive. It could well be just a random member of the public who carefully wrote up a scorecard.

I'm not a real cricket fan but the piece actually looks pretty good (either with or without the signature!)......seem to remember that there were a few forum members on here who collected cricket scorecards?.......surely worth putting on Ebay at a low start price (as Martino stated) and see where it goes? Sherlock

Agreed. Some items are difficult to value. It only takes two keen bidders.

I seem to remember that is the way that the scorecard was shown on the television. maybe someone was copying the style. Lovely lettering but wonderful names. I could reel off about 9 f the West Indians, and two of them Frank Worrell and Gary Sobers came to play in the local league in North Staffordshire and South Cheshire. Always exciting, and to see the England team with Freddie Trueman and Brian Statham and others in was quite a thrill. Ebay is the place for this and who knows, it may sell for more than some might think.

I agree, it could be collectable.

Sonny Ramadin played at that far flung empire of North Staffs cricket, Ashcombe Park, I believe and Roy Gilchrist was in the long line of fast bowlers from the Caribbean who graced North Staffs and South Cheshire cricket leagues. Roy Gilchrist played in a friendly at Norton between two celebrity elevens and declared his interest in the match by starting his run by the sight screen and his bowling hand with, his windmill action , was virtually touching the ground. I could not see the ball wicket to wicket from square leg, but enjoyed a rich harvest of runs from a seat at Long on.I forget who gilchrist played for, my memory is not what it sed to be.

My late father played in the same team as him. Gilchrist got banned from the league for chucking and freely admitted that he did chuck his quicker ball.

The slips and keeper knew it was coming and went yards further back. Dad used to tell me that the chucker regularly went over the keepers head and on occasions used to hit the sightscreen without bouncing.
