I have been collecting games in which Millwall players have featured for Army; RAF; FA XI etc, as and when I can. I have quite a bit of info but am always on the lookout for more.

The other area I have just started to look at is Millwall players as 'guests' during the war. I appreciate that players were not always listed on the programmes but would like to collate any info which is out there.

If you can help with info, or have any programmes which may be of interest please let me know.

Many thanks in advance
Ian

Best of luck with this. It's tough to find out who played, as you say, and could be a tough ask to find all the programmes! Smile

A nice way to expand your collection though. Wink

I have a number of matches which include Bees players, internationals, representative, testimonials etc and they add to what you have and know about your players and club. Thumbs Up

Hi Fishy

I have a complete list of guests who played for Aldershot during the war, I will trawl through it and get back to you.

Check out the website below. A mine of information relating to Wolverhampton Wanderers during World War II. You should find the details you are looking for.

Good call Dave, I have that book and it'll have all the info Fishy needs. I'll send it to him if he chooses.

Hi Fishy

Although I have been a silent member for quite a while I have always read with great interest the comments and posts on here on a regular basis. However I have just seen on ebay for sale a number of copies of the book Soccer at War for c£3.00p including postage. I hope this will be of interest to members and I have just purchased a copy myself Wave

Yes, Soccer At War is a fantastic book, even more so when you can pick it up at a bargain price.

As far as I'm aware no Millwa players guested for Arsenal during either War so you won't need to worry about checking through their records.

Not wishing to brag, I helped Jack Rollin with his Soccer at War book, any other former AFS members on here?

Hi fishy

Bit worried as I thought you were after Lions players guesting for other sides. I will send you what I have got though, it will be the name of the Millwall player, e.g Tom Brolly and the games in which they played

Fishy,

Millwall's half back, Walter McMillen, originally from Belfast, guested for both Glentoran and Linfield during the war. He made 28 appearances and scored 11 goals in 1939-40 and 38 appearances and six goals in 1940-41 for Glentoran before being "poached" by Linfield - a move that caused some controversy at the time (as transfers between the two clubs still do today).

I have no interest in his record at Linfield on account of him being a Judas ******.

An update on the Soccer at War book that I bought on ebay before I went on holiday, it was here waiting for me on my return and is a 482 page goldmine on wartime football with all the facts and stats that you would ever need, looks like a great historical read. Easy

Soccer At War has always been one of my favourite reference books and that along with the "Datasport Book of Wartime Football" and a "Record of British Wartime Football" provides an absolute wealth of information for this fascinating period in football history.
