maybe collectors of crewe and stoke memorabilia are not big into tickets but surely a prewar ticket should raise a few quid more than £12.50. Did people just miss this or is there something amiss eg, is this potentially a reprint ?

Putting aside the expensive clubs eg chelsea, man utd, even arsenal tickets from that era would fetch £40+

Well it was listed under football programmes so hardly surprising if specialist ticket collectors missed it.

Even then you would expect it to go for a lot more than £12.50 as it would have a wide exposure being listed under programmes.

I hate to think what a prewar Blackpool ticket would set me back.

The general consensus amongst the limited number of Crewe collectors I know was that it seemed too good to be true.

The paper almost looks shiny (in 1936?) and unmarked. Back in the day, the paper used would have been seriously low quality.

One of the guys even questioned whether a ticket would have actually been issued. Additional cost on what was a fundraising match at an event that would have been nowhere near a sellout.

Whilst you have to be switched on to the idea fakes could exist , I expect this ticket to be genuine. It seems odd that collectors would come up with a few ideas and then decide it's not worth a £15 punt. Not every piece of paper from 80 plus years ago need be in terrible condition. Of course , if it were a Manchester United / Chelsea for a rare friendly against a small club and the seller lived in Hong Kong then you would be right to be cautious.

Interesting although there was the Everton ticket from 1890s (there was a separate thread on it) and it was a similar shiny card style so not sure that dismisses its potential genuineness. Oh well maybe the buyer got a gem or maybe a turkey

Looks authentic enough to me.

I'd be dancing on the ceiling if I could get my mitts on a Newport County pre war ticket for twelve bucks.
