Another sad passing on Tuesday 7/4, that of the former Manchester City & Oldham goalkeeper Harry Dowd

Interesting to note that he once scored for City - After breaking a finger during a match and therefore having to be replaced in goal he played at centre-forward and scored the equaliser v Bury - Making his debut for Bury that day was Colin Bell.

Recall Harry very well from the 60s games v Everton top custodian of his day not the tallest of keepers but was very agile and commanding of his area safe pair of hands. Sad news.
R.I.P Keeper.

Harry was a character, he was noted for his complete lack of interest in football, he preferred his plumbing. Joe Mercer used to joke that he had to remind Harry who City were playing - "it's Arsenal today Harry, they're the ones in red shirts".

As said above he was a good keeper despite his lack of height and got his reward by playing in the '69 Cup winning side.

RIP

Was sad to hear of Harry's passing the other day. A great character of the game of which the likes will never be seen again.

Training in the morning and working as a plumber by night.

Rumour has it he once walked into Joe Mercer's dressing room asking for a pay rise dressed in overalls as he had been working on a job before - to which Joe replied "Dressed liked that Harry how can I refuse'

RIP Harry
