Someone in the States has e-mailed me, and I can't help at all.

I was wondering if any members may be able to help or point him in the right direction. Here's his e-mail:

I want to know if there are any player cards of James "Jim" Brown (born 1908), who played with ManU between 1932 - '34 and Tottenham Hotspur from 1936 - '37, notably. Please let me know if you have any team photos or individual player cards during these years. If you do not, can you send me in the right direction, please?

Thank you.

Below is a list of teams.

Years Team Apps† (Gls)†
1927 Bayonne Rovers (USA)
1928-1929 Newark Skeeters (USA) 17 (7)
1929 New York Nationals (USA) 1 (0)
1929-1930 New York Giants (USA) 14 (10)
Fall 1930 New York Soccer Club (USA) 24 (6)
Spring 1931 Brooklyn Wanderers (USA) 16 (6)
Fall 1931 Newark Americans (USA) 1 (0)
1932-1934 Manchester United 40 (17)
1935-1936 Brentford 1 (0)
1936-1937 Tottenham Hotspur 4 (0)
1937-1939 Guildford City 150 (148)
1939 Clyde

He came back with a little bit more information....

There was another James Brown that played for Manchester United from 1935-39 I believe, but my grandfather was the American that played in the 1930 World Cup for the US Team.

148 goals in 150 appearances for Guildford. Shocked

There must at least be some recognition for this part of his career in photos or cards.

He's not depicted on any cigarette or trade card whilst he was at Brentford FC, not that I know of anyway! I'll have to check, but I'm sure he's in the 1935-36 Brentford FC team photo by News Chronicle. Apart from that, I doubt there's much of him, in picture form, whilst he was at Brentford, as his time at Griffin Park was quite short.

most of James "Jim" Brown's Manchester United career can be followed by looking at the "cough cough" worlds largest private Manchester United collection at
www.flickr.com/photos/63580000@N04/sets

If you man looks at the sets for 1932/33 and 1933/34 he will find him on the wing in most of those programmes
These were the lowest seasons in Manchester United's history when they almost went into Division 3
Many of the programmes in my collection were from games watched by relatively small crowds and,in many cases, are probably the only ones in existence.

Please tell him that unlike that tight bastard Bazza he is welcome to draw down free all he wants from my site

Just out of interest, how is the label of "the world's largest private collection"... etc decided? Have you, Leslie and any other candidates compared inventories?
