The only rule is you cannot name any member!

Some people get agitated about those who use 2nd hand envelopes, or steamed off stamps, or harp on about rusty staples, inflated prices, the price of fish but my pet hate is all about something that cost nothing at all.

A great proportion of my ebay purchases arrive well packaged with just the item slung inside, no thank you no correspondence no kiss my arse no nothing at all.

Do not get me wrong-still quite a number print of the order details and add a "Thank You" but the majority could not give a toss and I am not talking about spending a tenner in some cases 100's and in others 1000's. Rude and without any manners not to say just "Thanks"

Some may argue what do you want, they left u a nice feedback is that not enough-well not for me but as Treble said the other day he and others[me being one] must be regarded as being Dinosaurs-well if that be the case then I am pre-historic!.

I know certain collectors go mental if they do not get a positive feedback-I used to give a toss but not anymore, one well known person on this site and who is well known in the hobby never used to leave any feedback, I once asked him why as I felt he simply showed an ignorance and he actually said I think your quite right and then he went back and listed feedback going back as far as he could and although he may sell more in different ways you will not find anyone who is more appreciative of his customers for sure-no names no pack drill!

Well that is all I have to say on this subject, maybe you all have something else to say, if so let's hear it....but remember to keep it clean and no names as its just a bit of light hearted chatter about the frustrations as collectors or sellers that we all face continually.

funny I just sent off two programmes with nothing but the programme inside. But my printer is playing up so there ....

My pet hate is when a Newbie or a non collector (?) asks if the 1956 programme I am selling for £3 is a reprint. Before they folk out a massive sum of money, they need to now if it's original.... I fold it and say yes... ffs

All that tells me is u have no manners and the only way I deal with that is I don't bid on your stuff anymore-simples, now if you had put a little hand written note to say your printer was goosed then I would be waiting for your next offerings with baited breath, ask Treble he knows I have kept a record of undesirables over the years just as he has kept records and details of what has sold, so sorry an all that stick yer 1878-9 Newton Heath home v Gainsborough Trinity in a mid week clash up your rear end as I wont be biddin

The fact the hobby has become so EBay-centric now - I lose the will to live after 30 minutes of ploughing through page after page of stuff I would have been able to easily ignore on dealers' catalogues.

Those who do manage to keep up with things on that site have my admiration - but I just don't have the time or the patience.

I still have the occasional sift through what's there but I tell myself that what Derby programmes I still need are unlikely to ever be on there anyway.

To be fair to EBay, though, I think the problem lies more within me than with either the site or the vendors.

I never expect to see much on EBay that I need but I persevere and in recent times have acquired one of my remaining Australia tour programmes from the 50s, a 1940s Scandinavian tour programme, an FAYC tie from the 50s, a couple of wartime and a pre war.

Now I am off to endure more misery at Gloomfield Road with perhaps a few stops on the way.

Completely Agree-there are deals and bargains also out there but you have to work at it. Steve has said he does not bother that much but you have to be in it to win it!.
I acquired an item as an example in the last few weeks[not paper] that I had never seen before, it is a museum piece from the early 1920's and I was able to buy it for 40 odd quid but the seller missed an opportunity to market it to it's full potential by saying it had Manchester City connections but not United ones because he/she didn't know enough about the item., certainly no disrespect intended to Manchester City from me but they regarded it as "a nothing item"
Like Bispham I have found some excellent stuff over the last 10 years or so as have millions of others-to me it is the greatest invention next to sliced bread.

Yes Ebay has faults, yes Ebay never kicks anyone off for sharp practises hardly unless it is a VERY serious offence, Yes they are dictators, yes they chop and change to suit them and yes yes yes to loads of other complaints, BUT they do bring out items that may have been slung out and never brought to the publics attention and have encouraged millions to look for stuff and stick it on!, our hobby owes them for that alone.

This actually made good reading. I never realised how important it was to include a thank you slip in an envelope. The modern way with eBay and all I felt everything has become paperless and a thank you via positive feedback could suffice. I will endeavour to change that going forward so many thanks.

With regards to 2nd hand envelopes I do re-use them but why throw them away if they are in perfect condition. It also means I can post package free and not have to incure charges to the buyer for packaging. I do state this heavily in the auction T+Cs and feel it helps the environment better. I Know this is not everyone's cup of tea but I don't mind how somethings packaged. I do feel it's important to slip a programme in something waterproof though like a plastic folder because I have received programmes in wet weather damaged.

I guess I am lucky as well as the price of fish and chips hasn't gone up in my local for at least 5 years!!!
