Esso coins

I have lots of Esso/Sainsbury coins from the various sets colected over the years and a large box of 'swaps'.
Some of these are tarnished , so does anyone know a way of restoring or cleaning them ?

I've not tried anything as yet as not really sure what to use , or the metal they are made from.

They are very poor quality metal and it will erode at the least sign of damp.

If you don't plan selling them anytime soon a coat of good quality lacur will help. You could get a clear stray or use yacht. Do a test first just incase it reacts with the coating. But I would mix 50-50 white sprite & yacht varnish. Then use a cloth to wipe the surface. Leave for 24 hours do the other side. Its a bit fiddly but if you can manage it not much will get past that but the secret is thin coats.
