Good evening all.

I wanted to give all on here a heads up(especially Eck!!) before the rest of the world regarding a programme I am listing for sale on Ebay tonight.

It is the match programme/card from the 1887 Fa cup semi final between Glasgow Rangers and Aston Villa played at Crewe on the 5th of March 1887.

I believe it is the second oldest Fa cup semi or final ever to surface behind the 1882 Final which smashed the world record price for a programme when selling for over £35,000 inc commission in may at Graham Budds auction at Sotheby's.

Having taken that into consideration I believe I have set a Buy it now price which will ensure it will sell quickly(hence me letting you lot know first) as I would love a true collector to Acquire it.

Still no one willing to take the plunge at an exceptionally reasonable price.

If I was a Rangers or Villa fan with a spare £15,000 that was sitting in an account earning little interest, I'd be in like a shot at that price.

It won't go the full 10 days,that's for sure. The only reason I can think for it not already being snapped up is people hoping to get it for a best offer. If I was a big player,I would not take the chance of losing it.

Anybody know how much this programme sold for at Sporting Memory's auction in 2012?
I presume it is the same one been offered at a inflated price

There will only be one i am certain. Inflated price ? This is what our friend does. He buys, he sells. It's how the whole world makes a living. I presume he is not a charity. I don't know anyone who buys to sell at a loss ( well only me Laughing

This is defintely the same programme becasue it has the writing near the top.

The estimate in the August 2012 sale was for between £3,000 and £4,000 but I have been unable to find the actual selling price so far.

This programme sold for £3300 before buyers commission in the Sporting Memorys August 2012 auction.

The guy buys quality items at auction and sells them on eBay. He normally starts the bidding at 99p. One of the most intriguing sellers. He must make a living out of it , not quite sure how, but he must. Remember not all collectors can make it to an auction . Having said that, this is serious high end stuff for a lot of money , so I'd imagine serious collectors are well in the know of what is selling , where and when. I have never bought stuff from the guy, but have emailed him a few times and he seems a pleasant sort of bloke.
As regards to this programme. It is quite unique. Not £15000 unique but is open to offers. I have paid over £4000 for a programme in my time and I would not be willing to let it go for anything less than double that amount if I wanted to sell, which I don't. That's the way it is.

1888 Sunderland home game at the old Newcastle Road ground. I must have been bonkers, but it was simply a one off, a unique once in a life time opportunity never to be beating. Well at least until the seller came up with another programme from the same game a week later Laughing

or should that be Crying or Very sad

For a one-off such as that, it's fair enough, I'd say! I've heard of a Sunderland Albion one from 1890 going for even more than that, so maybe it wasn't so expensive after all! Do you have a scan you could show us by any chance? Would it be a normal double-sided, single-sheet issue of the time?

As you can see there is two lines of faint ink under the year 1888.
Also a faint crease. Non of these were mentioned by the seller. Of course I asked for a 75 percent reduction in the price.
I was not happy at all the programme was not in mint condition as expected.

The seller said not to worry as he can knock me another one up .
Don't know what he meant by that ???

I got sold a programme from 2010 in much worse condition.

Seriously though, it's a very nice issue - well done on finding it. Is there a good (true) story behind how you got it that you could tell us?

Also, I notice it says 'third year of issue' on the front - have you heard of any even earlier ones surviving?
