If you are feeling down in that pisshole of a place London why not pop in to The Vintage Magazine shop in Berwick Street Soho.

Shoot and Goal magazines from the 1980s £10 Each.
1980s Programmes £5 each and a real old Arsenal v Chelsea from 1965 at £30.
They live in a bubble in the smoke and the sooner it bursts the better.

I dont pay over the odds for anything and that includes Women Love

I went in the shop to research a load of Womens magazines i have from the 1930s 1940s + 1950s They sell them for £30 on average.

All the Bookshops in Charing cross rd and around that area are a total rip off 1980s Rothmans selling for £40 each and Typhoo Tea cards £15 each.

I had to Google this as Auchinleckian seems to be the only one over 60.
And as for London what a dump.. We all have sewers but only the cockneys put trains in them.

Am basically of the same opinion as yourself on this one Bazza, as I've no time for the city myself, at all.

Always remember going down there in the early 1970's when Grimsby played Brentford fairly regularly, and we'd always get the last train back so we could have a mooch around Soho, and get ripped off.

Chipper Cockney geezers? Crooks more the like. Spick and Span, eh? BTW, don't get my bus pass until next March when I really do hit 60!

You guys going on about London if all you've seen is sleazy Soho and a few old tube trains! Mad

What were you expecting - Sydney Opera House? The Hanging Gardens of Babylon?

I suggest with respect that you should get a life.

John, I know you've done Countdown so I expect more than that from you!

Give me a Chipper Cockney over a Peaky Blinder any day.

That why the country is in the pits today. Its called Im a one eyed cockney and i dont care what happens to the rest of England.

They are happy as long as they get a grand for doing nothing, they take the piss out of the rest of England then judge true English People like me who actually having a better quality of life.

Overpriced everything from £1 million ex council houses to a £40 two mile taxi ride. £40 to park the car for a few hours. the list is endless.

Its full of beggars crooks and foreigners, eleven times during the day I was asked for money..
One said Any change "I said no Ive still got three cars two houses and a small place in Marbella. Very Happy

Running around like blue arsed flies, piss poor beer, sloppy food, bad manners, and unfriendly people lets hope The Bulgarians and Rumanians tip them over the edge. Smile

Chelsea for me sums London up Overpriced arrogant cheats and hated by all

We can all make crass generalisations if we want I suppose.

I'm from Sarf London, Croydon, Thornton Heath is where I was born (which is why I support Palace). I live 3 miles from there now. From my window here I could see Reeves' Corner go up in flames in those riots a few years back. I hated to see that and it brought tears to my eyes when I saw the wreckage the next day. But that does not make London a bad place or Londoners as evil.

I am proud of where I come from and where I live. I love London as a City and I love England (and Great Britain) as a Country, all parts of it. Even Birmingham or West Bromwich. I have travelled everywhere in Britain and I love it.

Do not ever accuse me of being a one-eyed cockney, you don't know what you are talking about - and I'm not actually a cockney but that's beside the point.

Pete, it's perhaps unfortunate that I do dislike London, but can't help how I feel. Love Glasgow, not so keen on Edinburgh. It's choice rather than being racist, xenophobic, or otherwise.

Loved Oxford when I lived there for two years in the mid 1980's whilst studying at Ruskin College. In truth, it's the only British city, bar York, that I have any fondness for, but that's perhaps because apart from the odd weekend away or football outing I've not had the opportunity to fully discover them. Bath is another English city I'd love to visit sometime, even if only to view the architecture.

I have a number of observations to make about city life in general, one of which is people don't make eye contact with you and rarely, if ever, converse with you. Anywhere in Scotland, maybe Edinburgh apart, is directly the opposite.

London, under this government especially, is becoming the home of the haves, as the have nots are subject to the ethnic cleansing policy that is the "bedroom tax"

Living in Scotland I'm increasingly despairing of Westminster ruling our country by proxy, as we only have one Tory MP. The Westminster bubble does have a lot to answer for. I do realise, of course, that you can't tar everybody with the same brush, all I did was refer back to the city as I found it (a) in the 1970's, and (b) latterly whilst down there working. Never did find a pie and mash shop either.... Laughing

You'll soon be independent John! Very Happy

You have one Tory MP in Scotland, you lucky people! We've been run by Scots at Westminster since 1997. If it were down to me, and Scots get their independence, they should be given 5 years and then be forcibly repatriated. Wink

The Eton cronies are as far removed from the average Londoner as you are from Attila the Hun. They are the "haves", we average Londoners are not. I share my 3-bed semi with my long-term partner - we own it - what bedroom tax?

I commuted to London for God knows how long and you are right, Londoners do not talk to each other. At least, they don't when commuting. Guilty as charged (although as I went to work with the same people on the same train, we used to talk all the time!) . But now I don't commute I visit London as a tourist and it's very different. I look up as I walk along, and not down at my shoes. I see the beggars and walk past. I don't count them as I go though, I'd rather look at the history before my eyes. If you come to London and can't see that, then you are sadly missing something.

Bath's a nice place, for a few hours or maybe a weekend. There's a pub there called "The Crystal Palace". I've lived in London for 57 years and don't know half of it.

Next time you're down, give me a call. I'll show you something, to make you change your mind. (I went to the same school as Mr McTell)
