Hi,

I have recently acquired the following programme for the Leyton Orient v Manchester United Division 2 fixture from 1974/75.
I believe it is a pirate issue of some sort but there is no printers name on the 16 page programme.
All the pages are about the history & honours of United & the team line-ups are hand written along with the score & scorers.
I have not seen anything else like this so any help on it's rarity or value would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers Martin

Martin

I have a similar one in blue but which hasn't had the opponents completed.

It is a sort of 'do it yourself' programme which was produced during United's 74/5 2nd Division season to earn someone a few bob.

I tried to sell mine on Ebay recently but without any interest.

Hi,
Thanks for the info, I didn't think it be worth much but was more interested in knowing if it was a one-off for the Orient match as it was the 1st game of the season or if others were produced for other games.

Cheers
Martin

Orient have only managed to date one season in the top flight when they played in 1962-1963 in the First Division.

Take a look at these two programmes:

http://flic.kr/p/7GnCVT Shocked

The one on the left is the standard Orient issue for the season dated 8th September[my birthday] but the one on the right???
well now what do you make of this?. Full programme with line ups and everything you expect but all totally different!. Why was it produced?. Oriental Chatter was included as well as supporters club notes there is even a fixture list for the Orient showing their first 5 results from 18th August!, advertising from Hackney Gazette and Stratford Express so this is not a Pirate or a "Souvenir" issue strange at worst and odd at best-anyone have any ideas at all?

I didn't know such a programme existed.

Why would someone produce a pirate if there is a ready available orginal or more importantly why would any collect it?

Y would anyone produce a pirate!

To make money and con the genuine fans that they are official

It is not proven as anything but original this is the whole point as there is so much stuff identical in both basically this is an enigma, maybe the printers were looking to produce different styles and eventually one won and the other was scrapped?

I would guess it was produced by some United fans. I say that as the cover is very similar to the previous seasons United Reviews.

United would regularily take 15,000 to away games in the 2nd Division, and if you were brave enough , I guess money was to be made by selling a 'programme'.

Yes, strange. Orient were away to Birmingham on 25 August. Drew 2-2.
