Thats what I thought.. his prices post-war are pretty good.

One or two others may be of interest although perhaps outside the collecting range ("wants list") of our members.

RE: Football Programme Warehouse aka footballprogrammes.com

Before i start i dont mean to offend anyone or groups of people in the following, just an opinion and would like to see others...

I notice through my regular (daily obsession) of trawling the web to find the missing gems that this particular dealer charges a lot more than many other dealers, I would say he does not offer much more (in terms of variety) of stock but does cover most aspects in perhaps more detail than most.

With this in mind, would it be fair to say that similar items can be found elsewhere in the same condition for a around 60/70% of the price?

assuming my assumption is correct then why/how does he continue to keep a level of trade to keep him going? If he is not rotating stock then is it viable to keep prices as high? Again, not for one minute suggest he lets it go for nothing.

Has anybody sold to this guy? Does he offer more for your programmes, this would answer a few of the questions above.

not to be completely negative i have ordered from him, but modern day issues at cover(ish) prices before a game (England aways), maybe it is fair to say this is the main focal point of his dealership and anything else is a bonus?

Answers please gentlemen....

One or two of them out there charge ridiculous prices - like £15 for a mid 80s League game.. and say £30 for a 60s.. there must be some idiots out there else they'd never sell anything would they?

Not quite that simple, Dan.

Back in 62/63 Millwall completed their season one Tuesday evening at Halifax. The attendance was 1,243. Now, we are going back 46 years. How many copies do you think survived....?

There are any number of people trying to complete their set of Millwall or Halifax, either for that season - or even going back to the war.

Supply and demand, Dan. I have that programme. If you knew how much I've been offered for it.... We are not talking double figures.

Likewise, try and get hold of the Millwall programme at Bristol City in 73/74 played one midweek afternoon during the Power Crisis when very few programmes were printed. £50 is the going rate....because they never come up.

A rarity is a rarity, no matter how old it is.

Whilst not wishing to disparage your resume on Supply and Demand - some dealers remain Inelastic in their prices - I'm not going to name the guys but for example they specialise in Man Utd and typically it's £15 for ALL 80s league progs and so on. You get the picture - think of a number and add a zero...

You have to log in to see the prices - that should give you an idea!

They have some decent items on there that I want, but they're so overpriced that it's ridiculous. I wonder if anyone actually uses them... someone must I guess.

In agreement with you there, Dan.

If you are having a bad day, just trawl through the Buy It Now programme sections of e-bay or skip over to Programme Zone. Always good for a laugh

Not quite sure what their business plan is. Are they just working to the theory that if they put those prices out, someone, somewhere - perhaps from the fledgling Far Eastern/Asian market - will believe it and pay through the nose before realising how much they really could have got it for? Or do they know absolutely nothing about football programmes and just bang out these prices because, in their ignorance, that's what they think it'll fetch?

But there are one or two other dealers who also insist in putting programmes out at big prices, working on the theory that they are still as rare today as they were 20 years ago. The thing about e-bay is that it has opened up the market and sometimes what was scarce 20 years ago isn't now. Once, for instance, you would go two or three years without seeing a Millwall 50s friendly with Manchester United. Now, you see it every other month.

That said, that programme at Halifax (attendance 1,243) isn't any more common now than it was in the 70s or 80s. So while there are silly prices being asked for ordinary stuff, without doubt, the true rarities of the 60s, 70s and 80s will always remain that. And command the big prices....which they will get.

Blyth Spartans v Grimsby F.A. cup replay played at 2:00 p.m. in December during the power crisis in 1973/74, would be in the same sort of League. I've only seen it up once on e-bay and it went for £70+ for a "four-pager"

Well it would be kind of interesting to hear what people think of appropriate prices. I'll open up a thread.

1962/63 Halifax v Millwall = £250-£300 - i'm lucky enough to have 3 in my collection but i've not seen one for about 7 years on general sale without people rushing in & offering out of ebay sales, the last 2 on ebay have just simply dissapeared after litterally hours of going on i wouldn't be at all surprised if the next one to go on if the seller had the ''courage'' to leave it on it could reach £500, the 1964/65 Halifax v Millwall match had an equally as low crowd & is nearly as rare.

Yep. No less than 1,049 went to that one. You have to say that Millwall really knew how to pack them in at The Shay.

So that's four programmes we know of for 62/3. Mine and your three. Mind you, you announcing there's three somewhere has probably just at least halved the value of mine: I'll be on to my insurers in the morning to see if I can get a better rate.

I was actually offered £500 for mine. Just as well you haven't given your address in your profile...

mine won't be for sale for a long time as i'm only 28! I had two of them passed to me by my father 10 years ago he was vice-chairman at the Shay from the early 90's to 2003, i do know of around 5 other Halifax collectors with the programme, a couple of these will probably have more than one, there was one listed on ebay 2/3 weeks ago but it was taken off after around 4 hours & sold for £200 in an out of ebay deal to a guy from Huddersfield,

Don't make such rash predictions regarding the fate of your programmes: it may very much depend on whether your (future if not yet married) wife ever finds out their value...or whether she ever becomes an ex-wife...

It just so happens that the last one (girlfriend) left me as i chose a programme (rarity) over a holiday in Greece with her, i have them stored away in a cupboard under lock & key, i told her that they were worth £1 each! Cool
