If someone offered you a ridiculously high price for your most prized programme, would you sell it and try to get it again?

My most prized possession, I only bought last year and it's the only time I've seen it come up for auction in the 20 years of collecting. Although I only paid £77 for it, I'd struggle to sell it, mainly due to sentimental reasons already.

My Grandad was Grantham born and bred, but later lived in Norwich where he was a season ticket holder for 30 years, so when a Norwich Res. v Grantham 1934 programme came up for auction it seemed only natural to spend some of the money he left in his will for me on that programme.

So NO, I probably wouldn't sell, as despite being 'new' to my collection, it means more than just the purchase value

To be honest I think anyone doing that would be collecting for the wrong reasons. I'm sure this thread could get loads of people pointing out their most prized item is not worth much at all.

And if your most prized possion is readily available to be replaced, it's likely that your fondness for it is linked to an experiance like the first game you went to. If you bought another copy would it be the same as the actual one ? I sold loads of such stuff when I dicovered girls in my teens and although I've replaced them those are not the same.

The programme I have good memories from is Rangers v Aberdeen title decider. I gave it to my nephew (It is a match we both attended) and I still haven't replaced it but it isn't too hard to get but I won't pay more than a fiver for it.
I wasn't really thinking sentimental value anyway, more like a hard to find expensive programme that someone is willing to pay silly money for.

In wouldn't sell any of my collection unless I had it twice, even for silly silll money, I collected them as part of the love of my team, not for financial gain, simple as that Very Happy

First, I'd have to decide which was my "most prized programme"........and then, having done so, I'd say "no way"

If it was an over inflated value and I knew I could replace it at a decent profit, absolutely yes.

sure why not. Even though I might not be able to replace that item i could nevertheless buy more items with the profit. Also in the long term they will all be sold (you can't take it with you !) so why not maximise the return when the opportunity arises

At the moment none of my programmes are worth a great deal and I would say all are replaceable so but I would say probably no if a had a real good'n. I did get a result the other day on ebay. I looked at a Motherwell v Rangers league game from 78/79 checked my list and found that I had both fixtures but the dates didn't match this one so I have a postponed fixture on the way purchased for 99p.

I don't know but I did give Andy Everton v Wolves 1948 (or 1949, not sure) to complete his collection. I am about 30 shy of all post-war first class Everton so I don't let the lack of a handful bug me - if I was 1 or 2 short maybe I'd be a bit fraught about it. Just go with the flow.

Dan, yes, I remember that, it was 1948/49, thanks again. For me I would find it difficult to add to the needed column by giving up what I have collected. It's getting harder to find the ones I need as it is without adding to it.
