i am trying to get some information regarding a THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF SOCCER STARS IN ACTION PICTURE STAMP ALBUM ENGLAND FIRST DIVISION 1969-1970. This album has George Best on the front cover. It is complete with all stickers of every player from every team. What it also contains at the back is an autographs page. The autographs obtained are MIKE ENGLAND, BILLY BREMNER, GEORGE BEST, GORDON BANKS & i think PETER OSGOOD but maybe wrong. Do you know anything about this album, its value etc. Cheers Steve

Hello

I cannot comment on the signatures of the other players but the George Best one is NOTan original but an attempt at someone copying his hand writing and making a Tom Walls of it-in my humble opinion. George Best has around 3-4 different types of signature since he was a young boy just starting out and thru his career his hand writing changed a little, when in later life his signature was not as bold or large.
To give some examples of his genuine handwriting may i direct you to my website at www.flickr.com/photos/manchesterunitedman1/sets and scroll down until you find the " George Best Collection" also you can find other examples of his penmanship under the catergory "1968 European Cup Run", there are other examples but you will need to rummage through the site.

Maybe other members can clarify the other signatures authenticity also?.

Regards

They all look like they come from the same hand. It looks like Gordon Banks is spelt incorrectly...looks like Gorden.

The album itself was issued by FKS and you could buy stickers in packs of 6 and glued them into the album along the top edge so you could lift them up and read the info about the players. The first such album was for the 1966 world cup but was a picture book rather than a sticker album and there was nothing to collect, it was just like an annual with pictures and pen pics of all the players. They then issued a sticker album for the 67/68 season but as they weren't sure it would be money making they only released it in parts of the north to give it a trial. No idea why they thought more likely to attract kids up there rather than in the south. Anyway must have been a success as they then released a nationwide one for the 68/69 season. They ran until early 80s but then Panini entered the market as well as other smaller compeititors (eg transimage, plus some newspapers tried it a various times like the Sun and Daily Mirror). FKS published the albums covering mainly the first division and they also published specific albums for the world cups. FKS stopped in early 80s, I assume due to not making enough money.

The one you have is I believe the 69/70 version and if complete can on average fetch around £15-20 these days.
