I know we have touched on this topic a few times in the past but it seems to be on the increase.

When I say 'lost in the post' ...i also include the 'my item has not arrived' as well.

I see it only two ways...those items that did arrive but the dishonest seller decides he wants his money back as well. These type of people are definately on the increase and Ebay makes it too easy for them to do this. Whats the best way to combat this...a proof of posting (pop) receipt you say Shake ...doesnt seem to register with ebay and making claims on these with the RM is a total waste of time and effort (in my opinion). Recorded Delivery.... Shake I have had these items put through my letterbox without any signature being made (not from anyone in my household anyway). Special Delivery Shake ........on a 99p item?...........Whats the answer?

But what about the items that do fail to arrive at their destination for whatever reason......they must end up somewhere. Are things badly packed so that they fall apart in transit (certainly not the things that I post). are items incorrectly addressed?......you only need a house number and postcode. So....what happens to them? What do the Royal Mail do with such items ? do they make any attempt to trace the sender? is there a website where such items are listed?.....or do they end up in a skip. Sherlock

Answers on a postcard please....... er...come to think of it...better not...it might not reach me. Laughing

Certificate of postage is all you need for proof of postage. Letters go missing for hundreds of reasons. Bad hand writing, wrong address, mis- delivery, wrong postage , so needs to be surcharged and will delay item.A note was left by postman and the person does not collect. These are the main problems. Any letter not delivered should be returned to sender if return address is written on the letter, otherwise they are sent off to Belfast where they are opended up to try and find who the sender is. If no address can be found the are kept for a period of time, and if no one claims then they are auctioned for charity.

Well a work mate worked at Royal mail sorting office a few years ago and said the toilets were allways "OUT OF ORDER" because all the xmas temps were flushing the packaging from stolen letters down the toilet Laughing
So theres one reason they might not arrive!

occasionally something maybe stolen, but sending an item recorded delivery is only making the package more attractive to a potential thief. Funny how the public always blame the postman, but what i have seen over the years the public are 99.99% the problem, poorly written/ wrongly written, poorly packaged, wrong postage atc....
