Methuselah. The last Auction

I just received today a catalogue for the Methuselah Auction in Middlesbrough Thursday 1st November. I was sad to read the back page.
"This sale will be the last public auction to be held by Methuselah Ltd.
We would like to thank you for your support over the past decade and hope that in some small way we have contributed to your collection of football memrobillia . Kind regards John Wilson"
It is really sad to see this auction go, as they have had some amazing programmes in the past, mostly North East clubs, which are always difficult to obtain. Thanks John.

I am also gutted about this as it is the only sports auction within spitting distance of me.

I have been a few times and got some great stuff there. I agree there was a load of shite for sale also, but thats the same at most auctions.

John is great to deal with and I enjoyed a few beers in the bar before the off. Was hoping to get to this one as well but now can't make it so am sorry to see it go.

It was my first visit to Methuselah yesterday (have purchased before without being in attendance) and came away with a few lots.

A few sets of Sunderland teamsheets and tickets and a "rumaging" box.

A couple of tickets I'd like some advice on if possible as to potential value;

Italy vs West Germany from 1978 World Cup in Argentina

Holland vs England from 1990 World Cup in Italy.

Was also at the auction and came away a happy bunny with a good few of the Billingham Synthonia lots from the 40's and 50's, for what I thought were very reasonable prices.

Met up with Posh1959, and was more than a little concerned as pre sale he seemed to be looking at all the same lots I was looking at!

There were some nice items on sale, and without the internet being involved made it perhaps a tad easier to purchase the lots reasonably. That and the fact there were plenty of them, which gave most folk the chance to buy at least one of the lots if they chose. I left about 2.30 as I could hear the pipes beckoning me back to Old Caledonia. Am now currently preparing for the Cumnock vs Auchinleck Talbot derby game the morra by eating 6 inch nails, with no side dishes.
