Manchester United Reserves tonight beat Manchester City 0-2 in the Manchester Senior Cup Final at the Etihad Stadium.

Many of United`s team are from last season`s FA Youth Cup winning team. Tonights success adds to an already trophy laden season with the team already having won the Reserve Northern League and National League Play off Final.

United fans celebrated amid jubilant scenes...

You couldn`t make it up !

A Manchester City reserve /youth team is an irrelevance, as they just buy whoever is flavour of the month. No young players will ever arrive from the ranks, as they will not have the patience to give them a chance.

True...but lets give United credit as it was only a while ago that these City boys gave United a real game beating them 4-2 away. So this is a decent City team.

Just nice to have a timely reminder that it is indeed possible to gain success through the building blocks of youth in the United tradition

.....and that actually means something, it is earned and not bought !

ouch ! crash helmuts at the ready !! Shocked

Was there tonight with a crowd of just over 5,000. The game began with no segregation but by the second half it appeared more stewards were called in and the majority were separated.

Thought City dominated the game and if we had someone up front who could put the ball in the back of the net then the game would've been a lot different. Fair play to United as the chances they got on goal, they took.

Despite what most think, the youth setup is one of the main focuses for the club and there are a lot of talented individuals coming through. The huge regeneration project of East Manchester is based around the youth team and training facilities and therefore it is likely players will be coming through the ranks in years to come.

Anyway the game ended early due to a pitch invasion from both sets of supporters. Thoroughly enjoyed the match overall. Thumbs Up

Thanks for the info on the game. I watched it live on MUTV and was quite aware about the pitch invasions but just presumed that they were United fans. All credit to City for a great game but I just feel that this present crop of youngsters at United are something special....time will tell.

Had to laugh at the commentary about the stupid brainless morons running on the pitch. I can`t criticise as I was as daft as them at their age !

Although there were some really decent players in citys Elite Development Squad(why not call it reserves ?)I would bet hardly any of them will have a sniff of the First XI.In tonights Manchester Evening News, Mancini is reported to be about to sign Hazard ,and exchange Balotelli ,or the Argie Weasel for Ibramhiovic. Also on the radar from Citys feeder Club Arsenal,Van Persie!

Interesting info. On the buying front, I think the most optimistic United fan would agree that we also have to spend big this summer. We`re definitely lacking a leader in the mould of Cantana/Robson/Keane who would roll their sleeves up, pick United up by the scruff of the neck, and lead them forward.

What United fans should be very excited about is the next crop of youngsters coming up. These lads are for the future but have shown plenty of promise.

So they have won something then.
United need to spend big this season to have a chance of winning the title.
