I too would love to know something about this team. I heard we played them in a Friendly in the 90's but have never been able to find if it was true.

Sorry to hijack your thread Wullie.

Is it not the club that were founded around 28 and dissolved in 32. Probably wrong?

No, that would be Thames AFC, who had the largest club ground in England, 120,000 and attracted the smallest saturday crowd for a football league game with 469 attending v Luton.

Must have have been rocking that afternoon.

Pastpirate, the team Bristol Rovers played was the non league team Thame United. I believe the teams met in the late 1990s/ early 2000s in a friendly when Thame United were an Isthmian league club. I did have a programme from the match ( which was a proper issue rather than a team sheet ) but sold it to a Bristol Rovers collector a few years ago.Hope this helps you.

wullie - thats a bit of a mystery - hate to be beaten on anything like this.

I've been through all the clubs that played near the Thames, Goring, Henley, Marlow, Sudbury etc and the only one I can find still going is Walton-on-Thames who played in the mid to late 1930s.

Has the medal got the V & S hallmark for Vaughton and son - they were the main medallists at the time operating from Birmingham. It seems logical if this was the case that the team was in this vicinity - but who knows.

I think it could be some sort of military football medal that had perhaps formed a league?

I know it has FC on the medal but have you considered it could be a rugby medal? Cardiff rugby team was known as Cardiff FC in their early days. There was and still is I believe, a New Zealand rugby team called Thames United.

Sorry I can't nail it down - I'll leave you with it.

regards, Mark

Thanks for that Andrew.
At last I now know that a programme was produced.
Trouble is that's another "hard to find" one that I need now.

Thanks for you replies. looks like a football medal rather than rugby. The hallmark is something ? VP & Co. worth no more than scrap silver, but it is a mystery .
