Theres a seller on eBay that is selling some top man utd items at High prices and some Members on this forum have been buying from him, im 99.9% sure hes boosting his items up, I just cant understand why people do it though when there are people willing to pay top prices allready.
They obviously have a price in mind and a idea of value so why not start it at a higher price on free listing weekend, or spend the extra 40p or whatever it is to list it at lets say £399 start price.
It just seems alot of effort to every day bid on your own items.

Its because you get more when its a competitive auction. People will often bid higher when its seems like its competitive than when a sale price is quoted. Also if something is started at say 99p it will bring more people into the frame because they think they can get a bargain while if you list it a £399 only one or two will be interested. Not to mention that if you are willing to pay £400 you will not want to bid until last second if starting price is £399 so you are not outbid.

I dont really want to name him on here as it opens up a can of worms and people who have dealt with him or know off him may think differently, its just my observations that i would assume that he is boosting his items, as have many other sellers i have come accross in the past just seems silly when im sure he could get the price he wants, but What goonerboy says makes sense, but if theres a item a want at high price i wont wait till the last second, i put in a opening bid, as i have lost a few items in the past which have had zero bids and the seller has excepted a offer with a few days to go....

You don't want to open a can of worms, but there is only one seller at the moment who is selling at the prices you state.
We've done this sought of thread before, and basically, some people suspect that if a seller starts a great item at 99p, then he is shrill bidding to boost the price.

Well Well. Today i am bidding for a cup final programme (pre war). The guy has a few for sale. And i have just been outbid by a seller with no feedback. But also he has bids for some of the other cup games. And now i am getting paranoid after reading the threads on the forum.
My view is that the programme is overpriced and i am not going to bid anymore. I can't say if i have been a victim of shrill bidding or not. Confused

I suspect opening new accounts is also a tactic used by experienced collectors to make other potential bidders think shill bidding is taking place and hopefully keep the price down.

Blimey, do they do a degree course in all of this?
There are two of these programme on ebay at the moment. One where bidding has gone crazy and the price is high, the other the bidding is low and the price is low. Can we read anything into that?

There was an item that I bid on with a starting price of 99p. I bid a maximum of £10 on it, not that it was worth it, but it was one to complete a season. Right at the death I got outbid, it went for £11. The bid history showed that there was one other bidder who had put in a few bid increases of £2 a time. I had a feeling that I would get a second chance offer.......and I did...within 10 minutes....and for my maximum bid of £10. I declined. The same programme was up in the next free listing weekend, same photo, same description but at a £9.99 starting price........................maybe the buyer didnt want it after all.

all the cup programmes i am looking at are now selling way above the prices that our friend vintage_football_memorabi, received recently with similar items he listed, and his programmes are always top quality. The mystery first time buyer has bid on all the programmes.

These? http://www.ebay.co.uk/csc/gary.....&_sc=1

Its no good pointing out shill bidding on here, i've reported them once or twice myself on here and what i found is that this site harbours shill bidders!!! Half of the members probably do it anyway! They should have a new section on the site, the shill bidders section, how to con innocent loyal customers out of their hard earned money! I'm sure it would be a hit! Wave

I only pay what i think a programme is worth based on past prices. So shrill bidders won't get any joy from me.

All this shill bidding stuff is only a way of pulling you into a bidding war, it's unfair, and hard to stop, but there is a strategy which avoids it. Decide on your maximum price and use an automated bid system such as bidnapper which places your bid a few seconds before the auction ends. You will win some and lose some, but you won't get sucked into the game.
It goes on in a slightly different way in genaral auctions too. The auctioneer, if he is unscrupulous, and spots a too keen new face, especially towards the front, will take bids off the wall, ie there is no-one there and inflate the price. Sometimes dealers too will run something up, ie keep bidding, and then back off and drop it on the toes of an unsuspecting punter! The world is a dirty place!!

If the seller did have the items pulled by ebay does anybody know what actions they take on the sellers account? If any?

I was watching his items too.

I had not bid yet but was wondering if any forum member, who may have already bid, has received an email from eBay explaining what has happened.

Ey up the mud flinging's starting again!

Detective cossie and inspector goonerboy two fella's who were obviously bullied at school get their revenge on society by throwing slanderous allegations about innocent sellers around on here.

As anyone who follows my stuff knows I have lost on a few items recently, some schill bidder I am!

Still cheers lads no publicity is bad publicity and all that.
