A programme collector friend has a programme which he maintains is rare for an unusual reason.The Programme in question is Carlisle United v Middlesborough 27/1/1973.Apparently the night before the match there was a fire at the printers ,and all the programmes for the match were badly damaged.A decision was made to destroy them.No programme was available for sale on the day of the match .However it seems some employees salvaged a few copies ,and my friend obtained one.That is the reason it seems this programme is in the "rare" category!! Surprised

How do you know its a reprint if you've never seen the original?

It's easy to identify the copy and any collector worth his salt would know it's a copy.

The Carlisle programmes from that season are a specific size and printed on glossy paper. The copies are smaller, printed on card rather than glossy paper and are not stapled. I believe a limited number of copies were produced to appease collectors of each club.

I know of two people who have originals, I've seen another sell on Ebay and one was on offer in the Sports Programmes offers catalogue approx 10 years ago. I enquired about the price and my offer missed out by £2

Basically this programme is the holy grail for Boro & Carlisle collectors.

Original above. This sold for £422.20 on eBay in October 2007, others have been on since.

Someone was selling photocopies on eBay for around £5 a few months ago.
