Don't know if there is a link to it, but Programme Monthly did an article on these a few years ago, there may be someone on here with an old cpy of it.

It's been updated since. It might pay you to contact John Litster, the editor of PM and ask him which volume it was in, and purchase it straight from him.

I seem to remember that Earliest Known Issues (EKI) was a recurring topic in Programme Monthly which ran for a number of months / years, so I don't think all the EKI are together in one place.
It might take a bit of a trawl through my pile of old PM's, but are you interested in any club in particular?

There should be a summary of each clubs easliest known issues... Sadly the summary covers from editions 241 to 268!!!

I have all but one of these editions but sadly not the time to scan in details from 27 editions!! Shocked

If there were specific clubs you were looking for i could dig out some info when i had time...

sorry to sound a bit obtuse, but roughly does anyone know when the first issue was? There is a card for the first England v Scotland game I think but what about FA Cup finals?

Well as examples Arsenals first programme was 1894 (or maybe 97 - im going from memory here) though they were involved in a game in 1891 but it was at a neutral ground and they played a second string team. I *think* the oldest FA Cup final programme was from the late 1890s but i could be wrong.

Are you trying to work out the oldest programme ever produced by any club or the oldest programme produced by each club?

I am doing a piece for a new football website on programmes (I need to speak to you about this at some stage.. Very Happy ) and just giving a low down on collecting really. I needed a few facts and figures that would make me sound windswept and interesting and also make people think I have some idea of what I am talking about!
Keep the stats coming though guys. always handy info and much appreciated...

I hope you are not typing all those out by hand mr badhand, as that will make me feel very guilty.
Let me get in touch with JL at PM and see if he can whizz me an email through with said info.
Once again thanks to one and all for your input...

I know that our first programme is from our game with Cardiff in 1912, our first in the Southern League and as a professional club.

PM confirms this as the first regular Swansea Town Official Programme at the Vetch Field. However, PM refers to an earlier programme which is a joint issue with a Rugby Union game, Swansea Town v Ebbw Vale 1898/99

Earliest known issues for Everton....

3rd December 1887 - Bootle vs Everton
21st January 1888 - Stanley vs Everton
4th April 1888 - Everton vs Corinthians
5th April 1890 - Celtic vs Everton
20th March 1893 - Preston North End vs Everton (Played at Ewood Park)
10th March 1897 - Nottingham Forest vs Everton

I can also obtain scans for ALL of the above Very Happy

Also have scans of 12 Everton programmes from the 1888/89 season Wink

I could be here all night detailing all the programmes but ultimately the Bootle vs Everton programme is the oldest I have ever heard of and have proof of.

A 1880's Bootle v Everton programme was listed on ebay about 2 years ago, i got outbid at £300, it was listed in the books section! seller had found it in an attick when re-plastering a house, could be the same one you have listed here, it was 100% 1880's i remember it well i kick myself for not putting more money on it,
