I became aware by seeing an ad in this month's Programme Monthly that Queens Park are no longer issuing paper programmes, only having them as pdf downloads on their website (oddly at 17 pages).
Does anyone know anything about the reasons (perhaps obvious) for going down this route?
It would be great to hear some views on this. |

Thanks goodison. I suppose it had to be about an ability to sustain the costs involved in producing paper issues. |

Yes, I reckon a few teams will certainly be following suit over the next few seasons but probably only from the lower leagues.
I can't bear the thought of collecting pdf programmes. |

If it ever happened for a game featuring my team, I'd still HAVE to print it all off and keep it!! |

well if you print it off yourself then you'll save a fortune. To be honest. if clubs are going to go down this route then a teamsheet will do for most collectors. |

I still yearn for the days when you'd get close of play scorecards with all the day's analysis on them. Have had a few too many scoops of "Bengal Lancers" @ 5.3% tonight, so if this post is sounding pish, there's the reason. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz....... |

Do you remember the pink evening times on a Saturday? I used to get off at the shops in Priesthill when I came home from Ibrox and get one out of the newsagents and get most of Saturdays scores. We're talking pre-teletext days of course.

I can imaging reading this programme on a smart phone before kick off or during half time. Makes perfect sense sadly. I agree the smaller clubs may turn to this. The big clubs have too much money coming in from the Sponsors to stop printing a programme.
Collectors can print off a copy if they wish. Keeps costs down and ends the rip off of the " RARE" modern programme.
I just wouldn't be happy if it contained too many photos as it would use a lot of ink.
It could give collecting programmes a shot in the arm. As people no longer pay out £3 per game current season, then that amount could be used to buy older issues printed by the club. |

Down here south of the border we had the Football Pink and the Green, you could either pick them up from the news agents or wait for the boy to come around the streets around an hour after final whistle which in those days was 4:40.
Had all the results and attendances and a match report to half time with a stop press.
3d worth of good reading.

Still find it odd that clubs attracting even 100-200 attendances wouldn't run up an 8 page effort in Word and print on a home or office printer. Bound to sell a dozen to cover your tiny costs and at least you've got something to give to sponsors |

My granddad used to own a newsagents and on a Saturday evening, he'd have loads of people waiting in the shop for the evening paper to arrive by van |

Didn't they play Rangers a couple of times pulling in over 30,000 fans - wouldn't this cover the cost for a good few years ?
Don't the players play for nothing ?
Bit odd for a traditional club .
Doubt if digital programmes will take off due to the cost of ink assuming you want to keep a physical copy .
How many have been downloaded per game ?
Mind you there's plenty of clubs doing it like England via I Tunes .

Pretty much. If anything smaller clubs have an advantage as they can predict fairly accurately the print run, and keep costs low.
There is no way that a club like Queens Park cannot produce a programme that is either cost neutral or makes a small profit. I refuse to believe it. At the very least I'm sure a sponsor could be found to pay for the print costs of the programme for the season. _________________ https://www.flickr.com/photos/footballprogrammes/albums |

Millwall are producing printed and digital copies at the moment.
I don't know what the cost of QPR's digi copies are, but the Millwall copies are the same as the printed - thus more expensive if you want to print one at home.
The probable reason is that a lot of Millwall supporters live a long way from the ground and do not get to buy a hard copy and the club are trying to tap into another revenue stream. I guess it has to be done but I now which one I prefer.............. |
