Very dubious activity on relatively run of the mill programmes, with all bidders listed as PRIVATE - very strange?

We have had all this on here before Footyfan and its boring.

Acusations against individuals who are not on here to defend themselves are pointless.

Go down the pub and forget about it.

Accusations? Just pointing out that it appears strange.

Is shill bidding an illegal activity?

I'm not old enough to go down the pub yet.

I sold a non-football item on ebay the other week for £8. The buyer didn't pay (no comms for 3 days). The 2nd highest bidder was offered it for £7.50 - didn't respond, likewise the 3rd highest for £6.50 - so all in all very disappointing. Perhaps they thought I was pulling a fast one - sadly I've had to relist it and, with a day to go it's reached £2.20 with one of the original bidders involved.

FTR I've barred the top bidder.

I can see how some might think it's a shill situation - some people just muck you around.

It is a bit unusual but is it possible that all bidders identity is hidden through an option the seller has taken? The reason why there are so many bids is because it's a 1p start. It doesn't always work out for the seller but sometimes it creates more interest.

I am a big fan of the 1p ebay listings. A few years ago i won a 1974 World Cup Final programme (original) for 1p. At the time there were numerous sellers listing the same programme as a reprint anywhere from 0.99p to £9.99 so the original listed at 1p was overlooked.

how long did you wait for top bidder to pay...was it only 3 days ?

Although I have no knowledge of your deal or the top bidder and thus your subsequent actions and timescales may be perfectly correct I have also got to say that in general that sellers have become incredibly impatient on ebay over the years.

If you buy at an auction as a remote buyer they usually give you about 2 weeks before re-invoicing. Why do ebay sellers expect to be paid the millisecond after the auction finishes. Its a hobby and only a few quid. Although a lot of sellers post out the day after payment there are plenty who do it 2-3 days after payment saying that this is a hobby and they have day jobs/family lives etc and fair enough. Is a seller going to be on the breadline because someone does not stump up a few quid the same day. Also how come sellers can have jobs/family lives but bidders are not. Please sellers chill out.

In anycase with snipers and whatnot then the buyer is not always online at his/her computer when bidding ends so may not know until later that day or next day that they have won.

Yeah, footyfan I agree, it is strange..... Other members may think its boring, (but for new members its not) if theres nothing to hide, why be private?.... As you say footyfan, it does seem to happen a lot on run of the mill programmes. I myself go to a lot of programme auctions.... Now there REALLY ARE some strange dodgy dealings there!!!!!!! Shake

I guess a reasonable response to a buyer would be, why do you wait a few days before paying?

99% of the iteams I win are paid for the same day, and probably 95% of items I sell are paid for within 24 hours.

As a seller on ebay, i thought i would reply to your comment about making a payment for an item won. I can understand where you are coming from, but sellers also have a life and have a lot more to do when an item is sold than the buyer who just has to pay for it. I also work, and have a home life and the next day after someone has paid I have to package the item, take it to the post office (in my lunch hour) to obtain a proof of postage, then send it. If Im waiting for people to pay, Im then spending more than one lunch time, running around looking for post offices, because my work takes me to different areas every day. If I was to wait and send them all on a saturday for example, I would be getting bad feedback for long dispatch times....Please look at things from all sides.

Just a random comparable observation:

When I sell programmes on EBay - 95% pay within 24 hours.

When I sell records on EBay - 20% pay within 24 hours.

Read into that what you will.......though I always get paid. Never once been let down.

But I give buyers 10 days before I start asking questions.

I might have been entirely willing to wait a bit more than 3 days but given that the "buyer" chose to purchase something the next day AND pay for it immediately I was fully conscious of their unwillingness to pay, and after 2 reasonable communications, their intention to pay. I have received a refund for my fees.

They didn't contact me in 2 weeks.

I always let the sellers know that i'm not in a hurry to receive the item. I will send a reminder after about 2 weeks because i'm aware of the pressures and know how difficult some buyers can be. One boy on here told us about a buyer wanting a refund because when it came through his letterbox his dog got to it before he did and chewed it up.

On the app for the iphone? Or on the actual site?

Either way, it just shows 2 random letters/numbers and their feedback score for me!

You can only see the full names and list of all the bidders if you are signed in to E-Bay and YOU are the seller .......
