Came across this one again yesterday - could never figure out what the ground in the small photo on the cover was. Still can't.
Large expanse of terracing, anyway - with a handful of spectators dotted around - might it be The Valley?

Could be a lot of grounds but I remember the old At Andrews looked like that at one end when I was a kid. !960-70s.

Yep. Well, if the 'keeper's collecting a cross, then the terracing must be at 90 degrees to the goal which rules out similar banking such as was at Blackpool or Brad City (as they were behind the goal).

There's a building poking over the top of the terracing....and a tree or two. too?

I shouldn't let these things bother me!

Logic at the time would say put an image of a similar game on. But although the No.3 could be playing for wales in red I can't think of a nation team that plays in strips like that. Looks more like Bradford City. Any chance of a blow up on the shirt badge ?

Was that not the famous first F.A. Cup Final at Wembley in 1923?
Too small though I think

The Valley is a good shout. It used to hold 70,000 + I think.

I'd say it was a Cup tie - and, given the clothes they're wearing (and how they're wearing them) probably late 1950s.
Uncovered, not too steep terracing suggests a lower division ground.

You're a Wolves man - is it Holker Street, Barrow 1958/59 FAC ?

I'm pretty certain it is The Valley now - I found another photo of that ground with the same shrubbery up at the back of the terracing!

Not late 50s or a Cup tie no.
