Looking for help regarding programmes from the following games, how many of these are obtainable or even exist and if so how rare are they? I keep looking but never seem to find any of them.
56/7 West Brom 22/12/56 (I saw this once on Ebay and it went for a pretty sum)
61/2 Bolton Manchester Senior Cup Final 26/4/61
62/3 Fulham 29/12/62 Leyton Orient 19/1/63 Sheffield Wednesday 16/2/63(I have got a reprint of this one so guess that tells it's own story!)
64/5 Fulham 2/1/65 Strasbourg (dated April 65 as opposed to the common one dated 19th May 65)
68/9 QPR 28/12/68 Leicester 22/2/69
Any help much appreciated |

Manchester United v Everton-Friendly 1954/55
It only seems to appear in the bound volumes that were given to contributors to the programme
Sold at Sportingold in September 2008 for £1350 plus the bits
Sold at Sportingmemory's in August 2011 for £2800 plus the bits
Manchester United v West Brom 1956/57
Has been as high as pushing £1000 but dropped a bit recently
Sold on ebay 2009 for £549 and agsin about 6 months ago for £335
Ebay probably the wrong place to offer it
Manchester United v Wolves 1957/58
Not as rare as some but hugely significant
About £5k
Manchester United v Bolton-Lancashire Senior Cup 1960/61
Sold in the past for £400 but that was a high.
Unsold recently on ebay for £350.
Current market place is probably more realistic at around £200
Manchester United v Sheffield Wednesday 1962/63
Aout £500
Manchester United v Fulham 1963/64
Very rarely appears
I paid £500 for mine and another member of this forum paid £581 about 4 months ago on ebay
Manchester United v Fulham 1964/65 about £500/600
Manchester United v Leicester City 29/3/1965
I paid £500 for mine but very hard to find.
Difficult to value as it doesn't come up often at all but my opinion is about £1k
Manchester United v leicester City 22/2/1969
One of the hardest to find
I paid £750 for mine in April 2004.
How much are you prepared to pay for it is its current value
Manchester United v Leeds 20/12/69
Sold in April 2000 for £525
Sold in Sept 2008 for £520 plus the bits
Sold at Sportingmemory's in Feb 2012 for £1500 plus the bits
Above game re-arranged insert-7/1/70
This game was also called off
The insert sold at Sportingold on Feb 2012 for £640 plus the bits
Manchester United v Crystal Palace 24/2/1973
Sold at Sportingold in November 2011 for £900 plus the bits
Manchester United v Bristol City 11/12/76
Normally sells for about £500 to £600 but has spiked at £1100 plus the bits in May 2011
Manchester United v Luton 82/83
Expect to pay over £1000
The above is not a full list but food for thought.

This thread got me to thinking........
Rumours of players coming and going, the press circus that follows Newcastle constantly, dreaming of again winning a MATCH never mind a trophy the continued hunt for those elusive items required to fills the gaps in the collection and the emergence of the occasional friendly i never knew existed....................
All a very small price to pay as oposed to being a follower of a successful trophy winning club and paying the prices quoted above!!!!

Thanks for sharing this information. Like many others, I expect, we all fear letting the "big one" get away which is why the forum gets a lot of enquiries about programme prices. Personally as long as I never find out I sleep soundly. |

I was speaking by email with Mick Hewiit a well known Leeds specialist recently about the Man Utd vs Leeds 20/12.1969 postponed issue. The pro is much sought after by both Leeds and Man Utd collectors.
The bad news is the last copy on his Offers List went for £2500.
The good news (for Mick), he does have another spare copy!

Thanks Treble99 for a very informative reply,no wonder why I don't ever see these programmes when searching and I doubt they will be gracing my collection any time soon if I do locate them if your guide prices are anything to go by! What do you know about the 64/5 v Strasbourg programme (dated April 65 as opposed to the common one dated 19th May 65)? |

Only theUnited away programmes for the 1968 World Club Championship in Argentina v Estudiantes and away also to F.K. Sarajevo[Yugoslavia] in the European Cup for season 1967-1968 and of course the 1968 European Cup Replay[that never was] at Arsenal 1968-all of which have surfaced but collectively i suspect no more than 12-15 copies across all 3 and that is being generous are in circulation.
I was not just looking to hi jack this thread and divert anyone to my flickr site where you can see originals of all 3 as the stats speak for themselves with many views already.
If anyone does wish to visit the site go to www.flickr.com/photos/manchesterunitedm,an1/ for the page by page updates on a regular basis or www.flickr.com/photos/manchesterunitedman1/sets to see the current entire collecytion so far uploaded with over 6,800 images.
However, if you missed those images of the 3 mentioned items here they are again:

http://flic.kr/p/6ctTfY
http://flic.kr/p/6514kS
http://flic.kr/p/4XAnDs
Of course there is also the Red Star Belgrade away programme but that is not anywhere near the value of the United-Wolves more than anything up to 70-80% less and then the condition would play a significant part., but i have included this one as well.

They are only rare because of the fan base and popularity of Manchester United.
I have a postponed list of Albion programmes back to the war and I value them all collectively at around £60. |

of course why else would someone want a football programme from Argentina 45 years ago!, if your PP was against United you could name your price, but i also think Tottenham, Arsenal, Chelsea to name but 3 have mature collectors who would pay high prices also, you only have to see them they are out there from Neville Evans who can outbid the Queen if she got interested to Daren Burney on the back of PM each month, then there is me and others re United and a band of Chelsea collectors who will from past history just pay more to out do the other one with the programme or item being secondary sometimes.
I seem to recall Bazza me old matey your Walsall Town stuff from the 1990's, you got a few hundred quid each for matches against some of the teams of the day like The Arsenal,Leicester Fosse, Glossop maybe and Leeds Cityif they did play them but as soon as the old Newton Heath x 3 appeared your eyes bulged and your pockets deepened-i recall you telling me my 3 purchaes paid for your Rover and holidays and all sorts, so getting back to the point a single sheet LANCASHIRE cup match between say Bolton or Everton or Bury and Liverpool from the 1940/early 1950's £20-30-£40 maybe £50 but the same programme v United and if the usual suspects do not have it then ur quids in maybe ten fold-such is the power of the best supported club in this country and we shall not even mention those other 600 million "Di Hard" United fans in South Korea, Quatar, Malaysia, Thailand, Africa and wherever else outside of Europe ,USA & Scandinavia who would not know Manchester if they tripped over it-let alone Old Trafford but this is the power of marketing to rope others in on a wave of euphoria-as everyone wants to be associated with success and English "Soccer".
Also had the 1909 Cup Final been between Bristol City and NOT Manchester United would it have sold for a record amount-of course not, against your Albion maybe would have struggled to find a few thousand, also if were the Villa or Newcastle or Sheffield United £3-5k a possibility not £23k plus 25%!.
Supply and more importantly DEMAND.
WHAT WOULD AS A SELLER YOU RATHER HAVE, A RUN OF MANCHESTER UNITED HOMES FROM THE 1940'S TO THE END OF THE 1950'S OR any other club? AS THE GAP IS THAT WIDE.
IAM NOT EXTOLLING THE CLUB'S PROWESS AS A VIRTUE JUST SAYING THE DEMAND WAS ALWAYS THERE AND EVEN WHEN PRICES WERE VERY LOW INDEED I USED TO OFFER £1 EACH FOR UNITED PRE-WAR HOMES IN THE 1960'S AND i BOUGHT A FEW, IF IT WERE FOR CITY, LIVERPOOL, BOLTON AROUND HALF THAT PRICEWHEN THE GOING RATE WAS FIFTEEN BOB[75p]for a UNITED PW HOME!. FURTHERMORE I PAID £40 FOR AN EXBINDER COPY CHELSEA V UNITED 1908 AND THE DEALER SAIDI WAS MAD PAYING IT-YE COURSE I WAS MAD AND THE £300 I SHELLED OUT IN 1989 TO SPORTS PROGRAMMES FOR THE 1909 CHARITY SHIELD AT CHELSEA FOR UNITED V QPR AND ROY CALMELS TELLING ME THAT I GOT SPANKED ON THE PRICE TODAY BUT IN TIME IT WILL BE A GOOD INVESTMENT-EVENTUALLY IT SOLD FOR MANY,MANY THOUSANDS SOME TIME LATER, SO AS MUCH AS HAVING TO PAY OUT OTT PRICES-ON MANY OCCASSIONS THE DEMAND WILL EXCEED THE SUPPLY WHICH IS THE FIRST RULE OF GETTING THOSE HIGH PRICES.
LASTLY THE LAST PART OF THIS MESSAGE IS IN BOLD TYPE AS I FORGOT TO CHANGE THE KEY AND COULDNT BE ARSED! SO PLEASE DO NOT TAKE IT AS AGGRESSIVE!
Can we get back to that hoarders thread as it is hotting up nicely!, where is Robert Adcock?-now there is one person who is not backwards at going forwards when it comes to speaking his mind, especially as we have been advised he is aware of all of these goings on, why is he not on here giving his version of events and the original poster seems to have lit the Blue touch paper and is hiding behind the wall while the bangers go off!
All good fun over bits of paper-we all must make sure we don't take it all too seriously eh!

Sorry Stourbridge Lion,i have just realised you asked me a question that i haven't responded to.
The Strasbourg postponed was just dated April 1965 as they were that unsure when they were going to play it.
Only one or two of these exist and as such with recent valuations that i have been asked about i must suspect that certain collectors would anticipate to pay £2500 if i ever decided to sell it(which i won't)
This is a scan of the cover and if you require scans of the other pages then drop me a pm

Well have we unearthed another gem?
1962/63 was the bad winter with all the postponements.
There were that many called off that United didn't want to publish a full programme so they issued 4 page programmes and coloured them in red ink and called them "special editions"
The Blackpool game actually took place on its schedule day of 23/2/1963 and the programme, which is number 17 is UNDATED.
So what do you have?
Nothing i know about so please let me have a scan |

Well now, the copy i have numbered 17 in Red and versus Blackpool 1962-1963 has no date on it, and for this season United had no scheduled matches in the fixture list at the start of the campaign for that date, v Everton was played at home on the 29th August 1962 and numbered 2.
Perhaps someone has written in a date as it is impossible to be number 17 and dated 31.8.1962 with the season less than 2 weeks old.
During the end iof 1962 and the start of 1963 there was what was to be known as "THE BIG FREEZE" and United's last match on 29th December was postponed as were every home game in January including the 3rd round of the FA Cup and that was not played untilthe 4th March!. Pitches were bone hard and all over the UK games were postponed.
United had programmes printed for some of the postponed games that sneaked out like versus Fulham on 29.12.1962 numbered 15 and full regular programme, Leyton Orient due to be played on the 19th January was printed with just 4 pages in Black and White but not numbered OR any date printed on it, season or even the opponents an odd few have sneaked out, v Sheffield Wednesday a 4 pager all in Red numbered 16 scheduled for 16th February, then v Blackpool all Red again numbered 17 but as i said no date and that match eventually took place on the 23rd February and the number 17 programme was used. The printers continued to use the all Red 4 pagers for there-arranged match v Fulham numbering it 22 and playing on 1st April 1963, and also v Wolves numbering it 25 and playing on 22nd April 1963. The re-arranged home v Sheffield Wednesday took place on the 1st May with a full programme numbered 26. There were other home games in between the "Special Red Issues" like 23 and 24 v Leicester City and Sheffield United that were full regular programmes yet on either side of 22 and 25 they were 4 page Red-confused yet!.
As to why the printers did this i do not know perhaps another United collector has the information-hope this helps so far-I am still trying to work out how you feel number 17 was dated in August?? not surprised ur confused so am i now!

Thanks once again Ray for your help, I was beginning to wonder if this one did exist! Wish I had been on the job incinerating these rare programmes when not needed and had shoved a handful of them in my workbag would have been my only chance of adding them to my collection I think. May take you up on the offer of scans at a later date looks better than a blank page in the folder. |

I'm so very sorry lads I'm afraid its"sack cloth and ashes" time.
I catalogued my programmes about a year ago while recovering from
major surgery. I'm sure I did'nt drag a date out of thin air but on looking
I find there is no date on it. Only thing I can think of is that I dated it
rather than leave it blank so it would show up in a search .
I must apologise most profoundly if I have put anyone to any trouble
on my behalf.
I have started searching through Statto's old results to try and find the
elusive postponed games and have found quite a few so far but I am
going to check my own entries before I get too excited.
How reliable is Statto???
Once again sorry for any inconvenience caused and thanks for responding |

MATT RUSH - If you need any double-checking let me know and I will check them against the ENFA database which is a very reliable source.
