I certainly don't think anybody's laying an accusation at your door, having seen Wullie's posting reference your items?

If the seller did have the items pulled by ebay does anybody know what actions they take on the sellers account? If any?

The seller pulled both auctions today probably because of the thread that you started as the scrutiny was getting far too much attention and they have reacted-they all know who they are and some if not all MAYBE are on this forum?

I would say the seller took the 2 items off not ebay, had ebay done it then the seller would have been kicked off, usually for a month well that is how it used to be and a statement against their name "no longer a recongnised user" or some such drivel, but the seller has no such recommendation against their name it would appear today so that can only be the logical reason?.

SHILL bidders are vermin-just petty thieves and ebay does their best to encourage them too with this private listing bollocks where i can put an item on and keep bidding until i hook someone in then continue until i am happy they have been bled enough.

Those items will appear again some other time or in a recongnised auction maybe or even on ebay via a different seller-who knows, but for now they get nothing. How can you come on with a 99p start up telling everyone you paid £750 for it and then within no time at all on both auctions the same 3 bidders come on and scoop up the price firstly with a 250 quid bid and then start to gently tweak it up a few quid then another few quid and with a week to go it is well into the £400 mark-as i said before VERMIN.

I just remembered i was watching 2 tickets the seller had and they have Vanished completly, i think i am correct in saying if he ended them they would have been in my watch list ended items, so i guess they were all pulled by ebay?

The way i understand Ebay works is if a listing is ended by the seller, then the item would still show in completed listings, these do not show on Ebay at all, this means that Ebay has ended the listings.

Maybe you are correct-i dont know how they work completely these days, but if they did do this[why? unless someone reported it and they investigated the patterns] how come if you have been caught up to no good you do not get ANY punishment? seems illogical to end the auction and leave it at that as you have committed an offence??.

We will just have to wait and see, perhaps the powers of Ebay have sunday off and will chastise Gary later on. He is a guy i have dealt with in the past without problem, he has a very unusual practice of buying items and selling them again within a few months often at a loss, perhaps his bank roll isnt as big as his desire for collecting

I notice how easy it is today to report an item. And that is great having an item removed, but like Leslie says, what is the point if there is no punishment ? In the end, people will just stop reporting the culprits.

Actually my comment was nothing to do with you but about the concept of shill bidding. So it seems you jumped to a personal position a bit too quickly...your guilt too much to bear ? As you started wanting to talk about it further I will say that it doesn't take much detective work to follow a few programmes around ebay to work out who bought it from whom. With rare items it is quite easy to track around ebay. Rather remarkably it seems that a significant portion of items from a couple of specific sellers circulate amongst 3 or 4 ebay IDs with a pattern that the programme is bought then a few weeks/months later it is back on ebay. Sometimes the items start or finish at one of the auction houses. It seems remarkable that 3 or 4 people can all make a profit from selling the same programme several times within a year. Anyway maybe a load of coincidences eh ! So my comment on shill bidding which is targetted at anyone who does it is .....don't do it, it is fraud !

Of course, Im no expert on ebay, as I don't deal, only buy. But we're my opinion anyway after a short time on these boards.

I'm sure shill bidding happens, but it's very risky for the seller. If bids are not attracted, then they end up 'buying' their own item with all the costs and commissions that entails, no? Seems a big risk just to try and 'encourage' bidders. EIther you want an item or you don't. Other (possibly fictitious) people bidding shouldn't really affect your desire to own an item. Choose your limit and stick to it.

That said, one area that needs looking at is when a seller is sure that a bidder has put in a maximum price higher than the current bid. That too has its dangers for the seller if they start pushing up the price.

One poster put up a youtube video link of an American telling us how to spot a shiller. But I found the whole thing to be self-righteous nonsense, as he'd already gone to the seller off ebay, saying 'pull it and Ill give you x dollars' . HOw ethical is that? Of course the seller is going to reappraise its value.

I think some posters on here assume (through their undoubtedly great experience) that all bidders act in the same way, using logic and great knowledge of the market. Ive chipped away bidding at items in small increments sometimes, noty really sure of how much its worth or how much Ill pay. To others that could look like silly/suspicious bidding.

I understand how frustrated dealers must be with the vagueries of ebay.

Please take no offence anyone, as none is intended.

As Featherstone mentions, and it's been said so many times before ........you put in a bid that you are willing to pay and walk away and forget about it. If you win then it's happy days.

If the seller wishes to employ shill bidding, then that's his problem with hopefully dire consequences.
