Maybe its because I am nearly 70 ,or maybe because I am one of the hated species ie A Manchester United supporter ,or maybe because I dont understand todays society,or maybe someone will explain why the following happens? Rio Ferdinand booed, and jeered throughout the match at Chelsea yesterday! Evra likewise at Anfield a week ago.Several posts on Facebook ,Twitter ,Manchester Evening News etc today make light of the Munich Disaster 54 years ago today ,and some examples "Uniteds biggest moneyspinner!,"how boring why do the Rags keep bringing it up!"United only became a big club because of it"etc etc.Maybe I am too sensitive ,or maybe not! I do understand partisan feelings for a club can bring on negative feelings for other teams, and yes maybe I am guilty of this with my posting.Whatever I feel that there are boundaries in banter, comments ,and of course my own clubs supporters arent blameless at time in this respect.Maybe then some other fans will enlighten me with their views! |

Jealousy, pure and simple. Manchester United have been the team to beat for the best part of the last 20 years.
Evra was booed because there are lot of p*icks in society that condone racism. |

Rio booed because of his relationship with Anton.
Evra booed because of his Suarez affair
The comments about the Munich crash are heartless and purely based on envy, the fact that Utd were the best team in England at the time and more than 50 years later are still the best team in England.
The players mentioned above aren't the only players booed though, we love to have a go at Joey Barton, Robbie Keane,Zamora...etc, but the ones booed tend to be the most talented.
I would take it as a compliment. _________________ "We have a problem with Sol Campbell" Arsene Wenger. 04/02/06 |

Re the booing, i remember a game at Old Trafford mid to late 60s and the United "fans" in the Stratford End roundly booing Denis Law every time he touched the ball ( this insident as always stuck with me for some reason) ......and he was playing FORE Utd at the time .
Any of the over 60s on site remember this dispicable show of sportsmanship.
Dont be to quick to dismiss the behaviour of your own "fans". |

with regards to your comments about the booing i was involved in a discussion about this the other day and tried to put a point of view over about why i understood some of the booing and why i was shocked at the over aspects of the booing.
I'll start with Evra, he's a full back and captain of United, and the Liverpool fans boo'ed him, now i said i could understand this as Gary Neville used to hold the same position (full back and United Captain) and he was roundly boo'ed by the Liverpool fans as they saw him as they leader of their bitter rivals, although i did say that the booing was probably nastier and more volatile due to the incident with Suarez, i still believe that Evra woudl have been boo'ed at Anfield even if the incident did not happen. But Evra is a player who i would boo regardless, he is a petulant little urk who thinks he is the be all and end all of football, he was instrumental in the boycott/uproar in the French team during the last major tournament, something which IMO is a complete no-no, if you're lucky enough to be chosen to represnt your country in any walk of life then it shoudl be something you do with pride and honour, not kick up a fuss as the manager makes you do training you don't want to do or refuse to play as your mate isn't picked, people who do that should never be allowed to play football again IMO.
Rio and Anton Ferdinand being boo'ed by the Chelsea fans is the one that i cannot make any sense of at all, Anton wasn't the one who reported it to the Police, Anton hasn't been a complete tool for the duration of his career (Terry has) and Anton has had to deal with being thrust into a situation that he had done nothing to create. The Chelsea fans who boo Anton are pathetic excuses not just to football but the human race Rio is slightly different as he is a tool IMO but that does not warrant the booing the Chelsea fans gave to him.
If i was involved in the FA i would have contacted the teams involved and warned them to let their fans know that if any untoward like booing players is done by their fans then they will face 1 or 2 home games being played behind closed doors, if the teams warn the fans and they still do it then you give the club the ban of having to play in an empty stadium.. _________________ Maidstone/Tottenham fan |

I'm sorry, but booing is a practice employed by the uncouth, and uneducated 'swinish multitude' or even worse, 'Scots'.
I have never understood, or ever felt the need to boo a football player.
Although, I do confess I did shout during the World Cup in 86 .
'please refrain from using your hands in future you ugly little man' as Maradona punched it into the net.
So There, I've confessed, I apologize for my shocking tirade. _________________ http://www.flickr.com/photos/sharrowblade/sets

It always amazes me how much time and effort is spent in booing and generally being negative towards the opposition team/players.
A few years ago now I was an away supporter at Elland Road when Leeds played Manchester United. Leeds won 1-0 with a Lee Bowyer winner - this you would think would have been widely celebrated? Well it was, but the biggest cheer of the day happened when Gary Neville slipped taking a throw in! |
