I do find it astounding that in your offers list of 4516 items, you have on offer something like 140 Northampton Town programmes from the 70s, 80s and 90's with a minimum of £2.00 each .These are run of the mill issues that are woth no more than 50p each. I just wonder what other collectors think about these "offers lists" of programmes that really should be on straight sale ?

Each to their own I suppose. I had a look at their first list and haven't gone back since exactly because of that reason, and no doubt there will be other like minded individuals. An offers list has traditionally been put together to sell the harder to get items, but I note that nowadays there does seem to be a proliferation of run of the mill items appearing on offers lists.....or hard to get hold of items at auction with unrealistic minimum price guides?

Looking only at the Sheffield Wednesday stuff, the majority of that wouldn't sell for 10p. Rips, team changes etc is not going to get you £2 minimum.

Saying that I did find something that I have bidded on (not a Sheffield Wednesday item), and there are some nice things on there, I just feel that the list could be trimmed a lot.

In contrast, I was just having a nostalgic look at an old Sports Programme catalogue from 1978 (when I started collecting) and there were only 10 items on offer a-j. The programmes on offer were (a). Borrussia Dotmund v Man Utd 64/65 Fairs Cup minimum £ 10 (b).Cardiff v Cheltenham FAC 1938/39 £8 (c) Moscow Torpedo v Spurs 58/59 Friendly £8. (d) Norwich v Ipswich 38/39 Jubille game £10 (e) Scotland v England 32/33 £20. (f) Rangers v Morton Scottish CF 1948 £10 (g)Torquay v Millwall 1937/38 £12. (h)Germany v Ebgland 1930 £40 (i) Sunderland v Millwall 1937 FAC SF £18.(j)Ajax v Juventus European CF 1973 £8

On straight sale, you could purchase pre-war from Aldershot, Blackpool, Carlise, Northampton and Preston from £7 and 29/30 Blackburn v West Ham for a tenner.

Those were the days !

In 1978 I was on about £100 per week as a fitter down the ship yards. Can't remember if that was take home pay or not, but probably not as taxation was about the 35 pence in the pound then. So it was about 7% of my pay. Same job today pays about £25k, or £500 per week, which would make it "worth" between £35 and £40, so programmes were far cheaper in some respects in those days, especially pre WW2 Cup Finals. But if you look at it as disposable income, tax is only 20 pence in the pound nowadays, so I'd guess that based on disposable income it would be worth about £60.
Hope that makes sense? Laughing Laughing Laughing
