Thanks for the response, however I only collect Man United Homes, and I have all of the ones you have listed.

Thanks again

The 2 Leicester homes you mentioned I don't think they exist, I have never seen them.
Just for your information there was a postponed game v Leicester dated 19/12/64, don't know if you knew this, but this programme would set you back £25.00 minimum.

Hi,

You need to add:

United vs Arsenal FA Cup 27 Jan 1962 - quite easy - £5-7 max
United vs Man City 10 Feb 1968 - quite easy to obtain £5 max

The United vs Leeds 20 Dec 70 is very rare and will set you back at least £250.

The first 4 on your list would set you back around £2k, and thats if you could find them.

You're missing 30/12/1972 v Everton too, that'll cost you £2k on its own.

You may be right on the £2k, and certainly correct about 'finding' them.
I was unsure about the Everton issue, as I was told it never hit the streets, but was certainly printed, can you confirm there is some in excistance ?

thanks for help

My records show the last 2 sold went for £2k and £1500. I dont have dates sorry. As for how many exist, Leslie is your man for that info i would suspect. These postponed issues are a big problem, and as a slight aside, maybe if and when Mr.Millman sees this thread, he could give us all a little more info on the availability of these programmes? Smile

Hello Kidders

All the items that you have mentioned do exist for sure.

Everton 1954-5 is an another one dated 19.2.1955 and numbered 16-this has turned up but has tended to have originated in a bound volume that the printers issued to the club, and subsequently these have been broken up to remove that one item as the rest of that season has no significant value, a copy did end up at Sportingold, never sold the first time but went the second for around £1500 plus hammer and vat less than 2 years ago. 1956-7 versus West Bromwich Albion dated 22.12.1956 and numbered 11-does turn up but is not in the Everton league price wise. In 1961-2 United were due to play Aston Villa on 27.9.1961-never took place but there is no programme ever known to have been produced, from the same season 27.1.1962[number 18] versus Arsenal in the Cup was postponed and this is seems to turn up quite regularly. You mention Fulham and Sheffield Wednesday from 1962-3 but there was also versus Leyton Orient on the 19.1.1963 with no number which is very scarce indeed, yet only last week it apeared at Graham Budd's auction and met the prices they were looking to obtain which was around £2000 plus the usual bits and pieces on top-very tough to find for sure. In 1964-5 Strasbourg I have the date as 10.4.1965 numbered 25-maybe one of the hardest of them all?.
I972-3 threw up the Palace and the Everton and i think Pablo's valuation is perhaps accurate, the Everton programme is very tough indeed dated 30.12.1972 and is identical to the rest of the season numbered 17.
Personally for me i have tried to get any postponed game , some collectors feel the opposite but i would feel the collection is incomplete without them somehow, still it is all about opinions, and to keep looking out for the elusive ones makes it all the more fun, as we all never know what is going to appear tomorrow and as I have always maintained if there is onethat has turned up then there are surely two![or more] patience is the virtue any collector needs but looking to try and find some of these is going to try anyone's patience and pockets as some of the most advanced United collectors myself included do not have them all for sure!

WOW
That is a lot to take in, but in principle I am with you when you say the collection is not complete without the postponed issues, it is easy to say that you own every programme 'played' for a season, however I feel the collection is NOT complete unless you have every programme issued.

I would really like to pick your brains if I may.

Yes it has I recall around 8-9 years ago in a sale at Phillips in Chester[now Bonhams] one went for around £1500 at that time[i was at that auction that is why i know], but in realsitic terms it is the one every collector would want, i once was able to recall how many were ever out there[managed to locate around 12 copies] I actually once owned 3 would you believe-all acquired from chaps who worked at the printers and they each "kept" a copy as a souvenir, i swopped one of them for a Red Star Belgrade away in the 1980's when a value would have been around £250-300!. Today the Number 20 v Wolves would probably go for £4/5k poss more and although the Red Star away has increased over the last few years it is no where approaching the Number 20 and may well be 50 odd % less. I still have that Red Star swop and kept one of the Wolves and sold the other at auction 10 years ago for £4k, the one that surfaced at Phillips had the token removed and was somewhat tatty but i bet you you it may well have been traded again since then. I am aware that Wolves collectors also regard it as a must and i am sure there will be a copy in some Wolves collectors pile perhaps. I am convinced that some have been bought and sold more than a few times and this may lead to collectors thinking quite a few more survived than are actually in existence?> I am showing the cover on www.flickr.com/photos/manchesterunitedman1/ under the set of "1957-8 Munich Season". One last point on the subject is that unlike some collectors who track all the auctions and ebay i do not keep a record of everything that has sold at which auction house and for what and when a scarce or rare item ever shows up i will offer what I feel I am comfortable with, sometimes as collectors we get it and some times we do not . I am sure there are other Forum members who may have further information on what has turned up for this , but i honestly think the valuation I gave presently is where it would be for a decent copy with nothing removed, but then there is the red mist factor as well and i bet we have all been guilty of that from time to time!!.

As above, very interesting thread to read. What would that Norwich programme be worth?

I think around £250-350 is where the price has been when it has turned up on ebay within the last 6-12 months, perhaps others may have more knowledge.
