QPR v. Leicester, Friendly, 3rd August 1971

Evening all. Would be grateful if any QPR (or Leicester) fans may be able to assist on a programme query please.

Have acquired a batch of material today which includes a number of the QPR "chequerboard" issues of the 1970's. With what's come in and what I've already got in stock, I'm looking at making up some Complete Season Sets, and putting the balance back into general stock.

But there is one item among them which has thrown me, namely a programme for a QPR v. Leicester friendly dated 3rd August 1971. It appears the game was never played. A friendly issue v. West Ham three days later is in there too, and the date for the Leicester fixture is gone from the fixture list/results page at the back. A fair amount of the editorial for the West Ham programme repeats what was in the Leicester issue, thus my assumption that the Leicester friendly didn't take place.

So - two questions. Firstly, can anyone throw any light on why the Leicester friendly was called off ? And secondly (….you know what's coming !), is the programme a bugger to find, as I can't see it in any of the bigger dealers' lists ?

Any thoughts/assistance gratefully appreciated.

The game was postponed a couple of hours before kickoff due to torrential rain making the pitch unplayable. I sold one on eBay quite a few years ago now and got £40 for it. I am sure it is one of QPRs hardest ones to get hold off

Brilliant, thanks for your quick reply and help. Programme is in perfect condition. Fair to say that one WON'T be going into a '71-72 set then !

Correct - it's a very hard programme to obtain
