I remember writing to the great man when l was a kid. He sent back a lovely signed/ dedicated photo( now gone!) . This gives you a little insight into Pele as a person. Great footballer and a kind human ..

At least he lived to see this year's WC final, when Lionel Messi, the young pretender, stole the show from the even younger pretender, Kyllian Mbappe.

For anyone of our age, Pele is the greatest. He could do absolutely anything with a ball, all those dummies, flicks and step-overs we see today and have seen through the years, were first done by Pele. And his heading was in the Ronaldo class. And, as shown above, he was a gentleman. None of this sulking, brooding, childishness. But he could look after himself on a football pitch, as he had to - anyone who witnessed the butchery he suffered on our shores in 1966 would testify to that.

The greatest, bar none. RIP, Edson Arantes do Nascimento, Pele.
